Most ATOTers significant others are crucial entities in the gaming process, if you get what I'm saying ;)

my GF doesn't care for the gamer type... As a matter of fact she was thrilled when we learned I didn't own any consoles.. her last 2 BFs were into Madden a bit and she just couldn't understand why\how a grown man could waste so much time playing computer games.

"Gaming" certainly doesn't sound like something serious to me... Actually, it sounds quite frivolous. *shrug*

I only play shooters. And in the last year, the only games I've played through were doom 3, quake 4, and FEAR. And each time, my gf complained I was always on the pc.

She says she doesn't care but then she'll make little comments about how I'm "always" playing my DS or on ATOT.

Which is her way of just giving me shyte since she knows thats B.S., when we're together she's number 1 priority hands down.

Shyte she'll play my DS longer than I do anyways!

She's playing Sims 2 right now.

Oh god. This is one female that can't stand the sims.

I have never met a female who didn't love sims :p

Hehe, well, all women are not created equal. ;) From what I have seen of the Sims, it looks boring as hell, too much like real life, I have enough of that thank you. I play to escape from life, and just have fun with it.

Give me, UT2k4, or horror/adventure genera games. :)

I give her shyte right back (in a joking manner) about how she plays Brain Age's sudoku more for longer than I play my other games.

My wife is basically an old school gamer. She doesn't like many of the modern games since she says they use too many buttons. But she loves the classic games like Mario and Zelda. We have a modded Xbox and she play emulators on it on a regular basis. She also plays games like New Super Mario Bros, Brain Age, and various Sudoku games on the DS and PSP.

Needless to say she is excited about the Wii and Nintendo's promise to bring back simple gaming.

I don't play games for long periods of time myself. Most I'll do is a skirmish map in some RTS like Generals or AoM.

She never played games before, but once I introduced her to Sid Meyers Pirates she is liking games. She also likes Sim City 4. I thought there was another Pirate game coming out soon for the PC, but havent seen it on the shelves. No way I'm showing her an MMO though, I don't even want to know if she can get addicted to that garbage.

I've seen many, many relationships strained by the men liking games and the women resenting the games.

The key is balance. I personally think most relationships are best off when you spend 2-5 days a week (most weeks) actively involved in your significant other. That does not mean sitting at home watching TV where you are barely interacting. I mean 2-5 actual dates where you spend quality time together sharing in what both people in the relationship need for a good relationship.

But conversely, each person needs 2-5 days a week (most weeks) where they have time to themselves. The GF/wife can hang out with the girls, soak in the bathtub, read a book, or watch Oxygen. The BF/husband can hang out with the guys, play games, or watch sports.

If your particular relationship needs the 5 days a week together plan and you want to spend 5-6 days a week gaming, it is not going to work out. You may very well need to cut back on gaming. Don't eliminate it, moderation is the key.
