Im interested in buying a laptop from someone and plan to pay by Western Union. I have never used Western Union so I have a few questions to ask. I want to be very cautious in case of a scam. This is what someone told me about Western Union.

U send me money and I send u the package when u get the lappy u email me the password to get the money

and then i pick it up, if u dont get the package u dont send password i get no money.

Is this true. I checked on WesternUnion.com but they didnt have any info about this.

If it is true, it must be a NEW feature. Call the company headquarter.
It could probably a trap to sucker you into sending money to him. Remember, WU only handles the money transaction, they don't give a damn what happens to the underlying transaction.

Password? What password? Even if there were a password one of you would not be protected by this method you described. (When you pick up the package where? At Western Union?) This does not sound like a good idea. He may be tricking you into thinking that the money you send him is safe until you receive the laptop. The last time I used WU, there was no password and if this is still the case, he can just take your money soon after you send it. He would not be protected because you could claim you never got the package or not give him the right password. Whose idea for WU was this, you or his? You might be better off with COD or look into Rallispec's advice. Is the price of the laptop really very good? If so it may be hot or busted. If you don't trust the guy, don't buy this laptop.

There's something similar to this, but not exactly what he said. If a receiver for a money transfer has no photo ID on them, then the sender can setup a question that the person must answer in order to receive their money. However, if the guy has ID, he can walk out with the money, no questions asked. It's not used to prevent scams.. it's used to help people who lose their ID.
