How does Valinos become Lord Valinos?

I had to think a second for a catch title. Maybe this one will work. Heh, anyway...

I've been wondering how one becomes a Sir or Lord in the U.K. Also, are there any benefits to becoming a Sir or Lord. I know they like to give the Sir title to famous rock stars, can just anyone get one?

I was just bored and always wondered this. Maybe some of you can help.

I think anyways...

pretty sure for the Lord deal you gotta be British...

for the Sir (being a knight) I don't think you HAVE to be British, but you gotta do something big for Britain.

Actually, you don't have to be Brittish to get either. And, no, not just anyone can be a "sir." That's why it's decided and appointed by the Queen. 🙂 Being a Lord, as far as I understand, is simply owning more than a certain number of acres of land or something. The title "lord" is like putting "Mr." on the front of a CEO or something, right?

knighted by the queen, you don't have to be british, and not much benefit other than title. that's my understanding. women get to be dames.

If you actually are Brittish by birth, you and your immediate family are added to the Royal Family somehow or something like that. It's not just title, dude, it's respect and honor of basically the whole world! Being knighted isn't a mundane or average event in one's life!!!

My (dunno how many greats) grandfathers were both personal guards to the last Tzar of Russia, generals in his army, and the guy who solely made swords for the royal family. Want a gold-plated wooden spoon? 😉 😛 My great-aunt has an oil painting of the last Russian royal family and my grandfathers together.

My uncle is M.B.E. He was in the British Army, and he even fought in the falklands war. After he retired from the army, he spent alot of his time helping runaway kids, and devoting alot of time to charities. I think thats why he was awarded the medal. I don't too much about it, but i think my mom would. I do have all the photographs of him with Prince charles, and the Queen.

hehe, you don't have too tip your hat to me. i'm just a bum 🙂 I don't think i can devote my time to charities and making others my first priority or even join army. I don't think i'll ever even come close to what he's achieved. oh well, such is life.
