How does Tungsten hold up as a wedding ring?

Been looking at Platinum wedding bands recently and came across a Tungsten ring today that i liked quite a bit not only for the looks, but the price was around $200 (as opposed to over $1000 for a comparable Platinum)

The ring looked VERY similar to this model - http://www.danielsjewelers.com/modules/.../customizer/step1.php?products_id=5005

Now, i know Tungsten isnt nearly as precious/sought after as Platinum, but how does it hold up over time?

Anything i should know about it? Does it discolor? Allergic Reactions? Scratch easily?

I don't know but my friends platinum wedding ring is awesome. It weighs a ton though and I wouldn't like wearing it myself.

I'm partial to my brother's titanium wedding band personally. The thing is very light and very hard. I should have asked for one of those.

Well thats what i don't like about White Gold & Titanium, way too light...

Tungsten felt heavier than white gold, but not as heavy as platinum.

A friend of mine just got married and they have rings like that. They look excellent, I like them better than more standard ones I have seen.

From what i am seeing, looks to be one of the hardest metals available in rings, for the most part scratch resistant and allergy free...

Hmmm, this may be good :)

I dont know about rings... but my buddy has the movado tungsten carbide watch. This thing will hold up to anything. Stronger than titanium. it rocks.

I believe that Tungsten is very durable indeed. It does oxidise in air; but, like aluminum, it forms an invisible oxide coat and thus stabilizes naturally, so this isn't a practical problem. No allergy problems that I've ever heard of.

One thing to note, though. It is a pretty remote possibility; but not impossible, that you might, at some point in your life, need to have your ring removed in an emergency type situation, e.g. slam hand in car door, ring bends around crushed finger, you scream horribly, etc. They will have no trouble cutting a band made of gold, silver, platinum or the like; but Tungsten is very, very hard to cut. The odds are slim; but it would suck if it were to happen.

It wouldn't be funny at the time, but you sure would laugh about it down the road I bet...

That is great if your bride is a Bull *** Constrution worker. What is wrong with gold? Gold is classy and timeless. Leave titanium and tungston for industrial purposes because nothing says I love you more than getting a ring that is made of the same cheap material used to make light bulb filaments.

What's next? A ring made of High Tensile Structural Steel! Or Exotic Steel derived from an old KIA!

It's so amusing how society views things...

Nobody sees tungsten as anything special, so it's not..

I think some of the ones inlaid with gold or platinum are pretty classy though.

Oh and platinum too has better industrial uses. It is already rare enough so dont go wasting a good bit of it on a silly ornamental jewlrey piece.

Platinum is the key element in makeing hydrogen fuel cells work. We need it to break free of the saudi's, I picture platinum as the new fur: It looks nice to wear and it makes an Impression; but It just aint right.
