How does this system sound?

Here's my potential system, which I would be looking to buy around early August when the parts are available.

CPU:
AMD 64 x2 3800+
~$350?

Motherboard:
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe
$160

Video Card
7800GTX
~$500ish by August sounds about right

RAM
1GB Kingston HyperX PC4000
$0.00 (from my last P4 system)

Case
CM Stacker RC-810
~$150

Hard Drive
Hitachi 7K250
$100

Power Supply
NeoPower 480w
$80

DVD-RW
NEC ND-3540A
$40

Wha do you think?

forget sli and get a board like the dfi ultra-d or the epox 9npa. you can save a little more buy oc'ing 3000/3200 with ocz sticks, but if you want dual core, that should be a fine cpu. everything else seems to fit right.

edit: maybe you want to switch to seagate or hd? each have 5 year warranty.

No point in SLI. But if you insist on ASUS, the Deluxe sucks (bugs and all). Check out the premium. Or better yet save a few bucks and get the EPOX 9NPA+ so you can overclock better.

Looks good, but the X2 3800+ won't be *that* great for games, it'll lilkely be outperformed by the "X1" 3800+. Check out some of the benchmarks

I figure it would be good to have an SLI board in case I ever wanted to pop in another card for additional performance. I also am looking for a CPU that can multitask well.

to get you up to date on what happened earlier, people who bought 2 6800 ultras for $500 a piece lost a lot of money when a single 7800gtx for 600 came out and ruined their day.

Gotcha. Multitasking: get X2 for sure.
Just an opinion on SLI (just my thoughts that's all): 2 6800GT's can't outperform a 7800GTX. Just an example though. By the time you click "Order", all your parts get outdated. Yep. That's hardware. It's just not worth it in my eyes. But, if you're a hardcore user, go for it.

Just trust me on the Deluxe vs Premium though. You don't want that loud buzzing fan, and you want a less-problematic board, so I'd go with the A8N-SLI Premium.
