Comes out to 895 dollars shipped. What would you do to reduce the cost? This is a gaming rig/ college computer. I have some IDE harddrives and a DVD burner so I'm set there. Also I'm set with a Mouse/Keyboard and speakers..

I'm also uninterested in VIA chipset motherboards. I don't want anything to do with them!
 
I agree, go with the Fortron, Thermaltake PSU's have weak 12v rails, which is the most important rail for modern systems. Everything else looks good.
 
 
 
AM2 < Socket 939

for the performance increase AM2 gives you it's better to go with Socket 939 considering DDR-2 costs more and if you look at the benchmarks there very close and the socket 939 processor does win a good amount still.
 
To cut down cost, you can probably get a 17" CRT for cheaper than the LCD, if you have space. Also you should probably go with the first build like w00t said, since there's not a big difference and you'll save some money.

Hmm on second thought, the Pentium D will need a heatsink/fan, which already right there puts the price the same as the AM2 one. So maybe you should just go with AMD. Oh whoops I was thinking about someone else's thread.

Thanks, I'm willing to pay a little more if it means I will be able to upgrade with security instead of being out of luck since the 939 is being left alone now. Would I be better off with a DVI then Analog? My monitor has DVI and these have D Sub.

In that case, I would go with the X1800XT (or X1800XL, overclocked to X1800XT speeds if you're lucky) since it's got higher minimum and average frame rates in Oblivion than the 7900GT.
 
nvidia does a bit better in wow though, although the x1800 probably isn't a slouch either
personally, i'd look at whatever system velocity micro is currently building, and mimic it with a cheaper case
that motherboard has no reviews? or am i just surfing on a really slow machine? probably both

Get the 7900 GT KO instead of the regular one. Same price 259 $ (After rebate). It just came out and it has a better/quite cooler 🙂... But personally, I would go for X1800XT since it outperforms 7900 GT in most of the games. (Although by a little margin). Nevertheless, I have heard that 7900 GT is an awesome overclocker 😀

Anyways, everything else looks good... not a very good person to ask 😉.
 
Why are you getting such a beast video card and you are only getting a 17" monitor. Would you buy a 7900GTX and use it on a 19inch or a 17 inch for that matter.

For future proof? 19 in monitors use the same resolution so it looks worse.
