How does this LCD perform?

According to Dell it says:

# Sharp and brilliant images of text and graphics with a maximum resolution up to 1280x1024 pixels
# 20 ms response time improves image quality in high motion applications reducing ghosting, jagged edges enabling crisp, clear images
# Contrast ratio of 800:1 delivers high color accuracy and color uniformity

Sounds awesome!

get the 20in dell monitor widescreen i saw it. i was tempted but since i was a gamer i decided on going with a crt.

They all ghost. People who tell you they don't ghost need to get their vision checked, or maybe they want to vindicate their expensive purchase. Even with 12 ms panels the ghosting is pretty obvious. If you're a gamer the best option is, without a doubt, a CRT.

It's hard to accurately describe what it looks like in games, but the closest thing I can think of is when a camera is moved fast and takes a picture of a stationary object. You can still see detail, but it's blurry and the image is not well defined.

If you get the opportunity to use a LCD, a good way to get a look at ghosting is by finding a finding a straight wall and slowly moving along it at a constant speed (crouch/walk). You will notice that when moving the textures are no longer sharp and everything looks a bit fuzzy.

Dell doesn't make monitors. They simply buy from someone else like (viewsonic, nec, or sony) and put their name on it. You may find it cheaper under one of those names!

that looks very good.
I have an old 17" UltraSharp LCD from Dell and I actually don't notice any ghosting. (Either that or i've never seen it without any ghosting)

Hey goose. I wouldnt get that monitor. Sure its a decent monitor but you will want the step up. The Dell2001fp is a much better choice. Not only is in bigger but it has a better response time and a higher resolution. Iam sure anandtech and everyone else out there will agree that the Dell2001Fp is the best avaliable LCD on the Market. Sure its a bit more expensive but u get what u pay for. Its listed at 800$$$ right now but 2 weeks ago it was 650$$$. My advise is check the web site daily to see if its on sale. This is a top notch moniter. Youll be happy you bought it.

heres the link... good luck

Just be sure you have 16ms response or lower if you wanna game on it. Some people can game on 25ms, but it sure hurts my eyes. Ghosting is unnoticible on my 2001fp, plus its an awesome monitor, so go with that if you can.
