How does this D600 sound?

Hey everyone, I'm looking into a laptop for college next year. I will be studying engineering. I'd like this computer to last at least 2 years. This Dell D600 is the discounted system I can get for $1400

* 1.6 GHz P-M Dothan (725)
* 512MB RAM
* 40GB HD
* ATi Mobility 9000 32MB
* 8-24-24-24X DVD/CD-RW Combo
* Wi-Fi
* 14.1" Display (assuming XGA)
* MS Windows XP Pro
* MS Office 2003 Professional
* 3 Year Standard Warranty + Accidental Damage

I can also upgrade to a P-M 1.8GHz (745) and a 60GB HD for a grand total of $1600.

Is this my best option for the $1500 price range, assuming I want better battery life than the A64 notebooks?
Is the $200 for the 200MHz and 20GB worth it?
Anyone have any problems regarding the D600's construction, overheating, keyboard, etc.?

I have basically the same thing except with a 1.5ghz P-M chip, and it's a good solid laptop. Nice and quick, solid construction. The hard drive does tend to get hot, but other than that there are no heat issues.

that's very good deal you get there. I have the D600 with me for 5 months now. It is a very good machine. However, if you want to get a good sound, go get an external sound card. I bought the Creative Mp3+ USB soundcard. But the machine is just the right size for home, bed, school and work. I find the 1024x768 resolution is just perfect for my eye.
