How does the UC gpa weighting system work?

I've always thought it was 1 point extra for every honors/AP class per semester up to a limit of 8 different classes.
Now I hear from a friend that said it's 1 point extra for every honors/AP class per year up to a limit of 10 different classes.

Don't remember for sure, just that my UC GPA was 4.35
I think it's one extra point for AP, I don't think it's extra for honors. I might be wrong.

I'm not sure a UC GPA can be above 4.0

It's not UC gpa for UC students. I don't know what UC GPA is like because I turned down Berkeley. It's high school GPA for purposes of UC admissions. A in AP course counts as 5 points. so it can be up to 5.

*did some digging, the UC site says 4 units, and from what i see, 1unit=2 semesters*

so max is 8 points extra added to the weighted gpa?
