Use PeerGuardian. They'll still see your IP, and might still sue you or bombard you with shakedown letters, but they'll have a hard time proving what you did or did not download.

but what if your "private business" infringes on my private business? my wife's had her copyrighted material illegally "shared" on the net. doesn't it make it her business if you're stealling from her?
isn't that kinda like me saying "stay out of my personal business" when i'm sneaking into your garage and stealing your car?
or if you drive down the street crashing into every car on the block. is that your private business?
at what point do our personal actions which affect others become the community's business?
