How does the Radeon AIW stack up?

Tomshardware According this link that i've seen folks referance I dont see the AIW. I'm wondering where it measures against the other cards and why is it so much more pricey than the other Radeons.

It should have about the same performance as the normal Radeon if not a little less. It's strength is in the fact that it has video and TV stuff, lots of features and abilities.
 
The AIW 9700 should perform close to its non AIW brothers. Dont forget its gotta a lot more junk on the card and ATI usually throttles down the clock to keep other components from heating up. AIW 9700 is a little different animal than other AIW's besides the fact its based off the R300 its uses different TV out and in chips than previous generations I do believe. I would like to see a comprehensive review of the AIW 9700 and I am suprised Anandtech hasnt done one or maybe I missed it! any how its a great card and definately tops on my list.
 
anand already reviewed the AIW9700, and it is clocked the exact same as the normal 9700 so it is just as good for games, and it has all the extra AIW features.

For about $50, all that stuff (native component video output, excellent RF remote, tv tuner, Pinnacle software and video inuts) are a great deal IMHO.
 
This was my concern as well. That the AIW would run a bit slower than the standard 9700 Pro? For an extra $40, is it worth it??? What exactly can you do with the AIW in addition to watching TV with it? I assume you can just plug it into your exixting cable TV line, or do you have to sign up for a different service to take advantage of what the AIW can do?

Also do you lose any of the card back outputs that are on the standard 9700 Pro like DVI Duel Monitor?

There is no dual monitor on the AIW cards. They have the extra DAC but no space to put it on the board unfortunately. So you're stuck with one monitor plus Svideo out if you wish for dual display.

You just hook up your existing tv cable to the back of the video card and it runs on your monitor... it's very easy to set up.

As for extra features, it has video in, TV recording, etc. If you want to do video editing/tv watching on your PC, etc then it's a good card to get. If you don't see yourself doing that kind of stuff then you probably don't need the extra features.
 

Put it this way, its more expensive than other Radeons but it less expensive (and much better) than an XP MediaEdition PC....
 
Currently mine has my camcorder plugged into the analog audio/video inputs.
The VCR is connected thru the audio/video outputs.
I use the Pennacle Studio 8 for video editing.

I am currently watching the ATI TV in the upper left corner of my browser
while typing this with the Gemstar Program Schedule scrolling channel lineup.
