I'm looking to install the ocz agility 60gb in my lenovo x200 laptop. How's the speed on this thing compared to the intel drives?

It's slower and cheaper. It's still faster than you are going to get from any mechanical drive. It's newegg's shellshocker today for an awesome price, $124AR. It has TRIM support so you are good there.

Yep that's where I got it. Hope it picks up the speed in my laptop:

It should be a welcome upgrade. It may not match the Intel, but it is a very good deal right now.

IMO, you won't notice any practical difference between an OCZ Agility and Intel X25-M in normal, everyday, real world use.

You will most definitely notice a difference from this SSD over a mechanical drive.

That's what I thought also

It's freaking fast. For day to day use, there's no real point overpaying for the premium SSDs. I've been using the 60GB Agility in my laptop (Thinkpad T61) for a few weeks now, and it's great. I don't have an X-25 to compare it to, but I honestly can't see how it could be much faster than this (in terms of real world speed).

Check the firmware right after you get it, though. I installed my OS and apps without doing so, since I figured it was new enough to have the newest firmware, but it didn't. 1.5's the version you want to be on.

Spot on. I use X25's, X18's, and various Indilinx drives. I actually sent back a Vertex LE 100GB because I couldn't tell a difference between it and a 120GB agility (that was $100 cheaper).

How do you update the FW on the OCZ drives? i dont have a DVD player in my X200, i do have an external USB DVD though.

And also What OS did you install on it for your Lenovo laptop? I'm wondering how do i go about installing the OS on it and getting all the drivers and everything

i have a 30gb ocz agility in the second rig, going to be running in a htpc or nettop rig soon.

enjoy your extended battery life and incredible access times compared to mechanical drives.

Updating the FW is simple if you do it via USB. I just took a flash drive and made it bootable and put the firmware installer on it. There's detailed instructions on the OCZ forum.

As for the OS, I used Win7. It's by far the simplest as far as SSDs are concerned - TRIM works out of the box, defrag is automatically disabled, etc. The simplest way to get drivers after a fresh Windows install is to use the Thinkvantage Update app - it delivers the updates specific to your system. I only bothered to install the UltraNav (mouse) and OSD drivers; built in Windows drivers worked flawlessly for things like networking and sound. I suppose I didn't need to install the drivers I did, either - the mouse works fine without the UltraNav driver, it just isn't as configurable as before (I use a weird setup where I move the cursor with the Trackpoint nub and use the entire touchpad as a massive scrolling area with my thumb).

Thats weird, because when i installed my Intel SSD in my HTPC, i had to manually disable Defrag.

Thanks, what i think i'll do is Install W7, then try to get that Lenovo Update Application and have that install all my drivers for me

Go to Device Manager
Disk drives
OCZ Agility
Details tab
property - 'Hardware Ids'

I just installed an Agility 60gb in my Lenovo u350. It's pretty sweet.

nice, it looks like i have the 1.5 already, is that the latest?

And i hear OCZ has this proprietary feature called garbage collection, do i need to run a program for that or what do i do to configure it?

No, GC runs by itself when the drive is idle. It's on the controller level; the OS can't do anything to stop/start GC. The easiest way to let GC do its thing is to reboot into the BIOS and just leave it there for a few hours. This isn't necessary unless you're seeing an actual dropoff in your performance, though - for the most part, TRIM will keep your drive nice and fast (TRIM works in a matter of seconds/minutes as soon as you delete stuff on the drive).
