I checked, but couldn't find specific to my mower. It is a 4 cycle briggs and straton 4.5 hP (I think). I bought it new last year.Originally posted by: shenaniganz

I dont know about newer ones, but older ones were very basic. There was a dipper attached to the crank, as the crank came down it would splash into the oil, as the crank went up it would come out of the oil and splash more oil.
VERY simple. Dont know about newer ones though.
All lawnmower engines under let's say.. 12HP.. use splash lubrication. Only the bigger 2-cylinder mower engines are going to have any kind of full pressure lubrication system.Originally posted by: C'DaleRider
I'd guess the engine, since it's a 4.5HP Briggs, is a Quantum Series engine........this engine series uses a gear-driven pressurized oil system to lube the internals....not as sophisticated as an automobile lubrication system, but much more than the splash-bath old style oil system of years ago.
All of Briggs engines used for mowers use this pressurized oil system.......the splash-bath is long forgotten.
