How does the internet works ?

Hello,

I was wondering ... how exactly does internet works ...

let's say I'm a big provider in Sweden, want to connect to "the internet" outside of the sweden ... want to put my own cable (backbone)

so ... how does it work ? ... I just put cable ... let's say to Norway ... then connect to some existing backbone there and that's it ?

do I have to pay for that backbone that I will use ?

He never said he wanted to be an ISP, he was just using it as an example.

Yup, that's it. But don't waste your money on expensive, "designer" cable. Just go to Radio Shack and buy yourself some zip-cord and save yourself a ton of money.

You will pay for the contruction costs of putting the cable/fiber in the ground and people will pay you back for tapping into your line as subsribers.. You will have to pay for a series of IP addresses too and sometimes where you tap in makes you pay too but sometimes not depending if they want or need you.

So basically the internet is a bunch of really rich guys who own lines, IP addresses, routing equipment and lease them to users such as businesses and individuals to recoupe the costs.

Uh uh, this isn't magic, and it's nothing like flipping on a switch. What we've got here is a bunch of gnomes that run around with pictures and when you say that you want something, the gnome with the respective pictures runs through the cables and into your monitor where it pushes it up against the glass from the inside. They also don't want to tell you that they have human teleportation. How else do you think wireless (satellite or Wi-Fi) internet works? They merely decompose the gnome on one side and recompose it on the other. I could go into more detail than this but I'd probably have to kill you.
