How does the Epox 8K3A read CPU Temp?

I'm using an Athlon XP 2200+ on an Epox 8K3A+ with an Alpha PAL8045 heatsink and a Panaflo M1A (32.1CFM) fan on top of the heatsink, and no matter how many times I reseat my heatsink, I pretty much get around 57C cpu temp. My case temp is 24C, so I don't think airflow is much of a problem. I've heard that some motherboards read the internal cpu temp and others the outside temp. I haven't been able to find any information on how the Epox 8K3A+ reads the CPU temp. If anyone could give me some insight into this, it'd be much appreciated. Otherwise, I'm gonna buy a jet engine fan to cool that puppy down.

The 8K3A was one of the first and still one of the only boards that read temperture using the internal sensor on the XP chips. 57 is a very good temperature.
