How does the college basketball ranking system work?

I love watching college basketball [Atleast in March]

Is it basically the same system as football? [Although ranks don't mean much?]

it's all about the polls.

at the end of the season, the selection committee chooses who goes to the tourney and what seed they get.

No they don't really have the BS system like college football does. You're right, the ranks don't mean as much. As long as you're one of the 64
teams to have at least over .500 (I believe) you can go to the NCAA tournament. Anyway, they determine the ranks by how many games they have played,
how many wins and losses they have had as well. Also keep in mind how many points they score each game against their opponent, and how many the opponent
scores against them.

For example, you have two teams that are 15-0. If Team A is in a tougher conference than Team B, Team A will be ranked higher.

The March bball tourney has a selection committee that chooses who goes and who doesn't. There are a lot of factors involved and every year, there are lower ranked teams getting in while higher ranked teams don't, because the higher ranked team may have more wins, but they play in a crappy conference or had played an easy nonconference schedule. This is one of the reasons the better teams schedule harder nonconference opponents. They also do that to prepare their players and to assess where they are and how much more they have to improve 🙂
