How does the blackberry phone "know" it's holstered?

I believe there is a magnetic switch of some sort.

Yup! That's it! I put the bottom of the phone near a neodymium puck and it switches into holster mode. :Q

Guess that (holster) should stay away from floppies and credit cards. It picks up small screws.

I'm flattered, I don't understand 75% of the stuff you post, but I answered your question. 😀

Hehe I'm not up on cell phones at all. 😉

Although I may get a jawbone. 🙂

there's a magnet in the holster - try playing with it, you can turn it off by putting the magnet near it.

Hey if ALL phones did that it would be easy to come up with a mode changer (peaceful jammer?). I wonder how many mT is needed for the FET to sense holster mode but not so much to erase credit cards? For the purpose of distribution of electromagnetic energy to change mode in a large area like a fine resaurant or movie theater. Hell yeah! 😀

You could also make someone's pacemaker go wonky, not good 😛
EM fields can do silly things

hall effect sensor....that's how the flip phones know they are open or closed. A little magnet in the flip, a hall effect sensor in the radio. They are more reliable than a mechanical switch (no moving parts)

Please stop littering your posts with technical jargon. It's annoying. Seriously.

Most posters on here could fill their posts with deep sounding technical nonsense if they didn't mind the aforementioned annoyingness, but they refrain, as should you.

If anyone should STFU it should be you. You call me out on my pic, accuse me of spewing out jargon and nonsense and if anyone is a troll, tool, it is you. You argue like a little schoolboy whose fvcking testicles haven't dropped. Grow the fvck up. Why they have not banned your finger pointing non contributing ass is beyond me. This will be the last time I ever waste my time responding to your useless drivel.

I'm in no way related to MS Dawn or anyone else on this forum. PM a mod or let the mod comment here.

should just be using bluetooth for that

yeah a lot of phones use those magnetic sensors. but a strong EM field can have dangerous repercussions for anyone with implants (not breast implants but mechanical ones.)
