I know threre are many benches... I want to know though from someone who owns one from experience... is it really that AMAZING? worth the money... or not...

Also... isnt this the same model, well based off of, used for the PS3 graphics card? from benches, it is a really good card and can use very high reses... but honestly, the PS3 will not be that AMAZING... because first, the card is out on PC now and PS3 is out in 2006 and the videos they are showing are just complete crap... that cant be real with the 7800... well i know the unreal engine, but besides that... **cough**cough** Kill Zone...

Well, definitly for consoles the Res is MUCH MUCH smaller, but it doesnt seem like the new consoles are NEXT GEN... By the time the PS3 comes out, then PC's will be past the next generation? how does that work ;)

I really like mine.

Runs HL2 1680x 1050 @ everything maxed out at about 114 FPS on my 3.4 P4 system

BF 2, same resolution 2-4x AA all but Dynamic settings maxed out I get 60-70, more with a better system.

It scales great w/ ocing, I have the BFG @ 470/1300

yeah... so its good but not enough from an x800xt...

it just looks so tempting to get one when watching Unreal Tounament 2007 running with the 7800 GTX... and unreal engine 3 demos... AHHH, makes me say, "I want!!"

If all games were just made in source ;), then everything would be so smooth... Valve really knows how to write their code efficietly! I only say because i can get 140 FPS easily in CS sourc and 100 in HL2 wiht ALL highest, but in a game like BF2 i get 60 - 70 usually but dip to 40 and sometimes 30... We need more engines like source ;)

I bet those dips you are talking about are because of a lack of avail RAM. Before you play BF2 next time bring up Task Manager, and proceed to play the game as normal. When you are done playing click on performance in Task Mananger and look at peak commit charge. If you are over 1000000 you have hit the pagefile, thus the dip in your FPS.

Why does BF2 need so much memory? It's not like the textures are better looking than HL2s, yet HL2 performs a lot better. Couldn't they just compress them better to make more efficient use of memory? The HL2 engine is much better performance wise and looks better than the BF2 one.

I love my 7800GTX, it allows me to play anything I want at 1680x1050 with everything maxed out! Can't wait to see what it does with some next gen games, but for now, Battlefield 2 is a hell of a lot of fun!

I hate BF2 for memory usage as well. I am considering selling my 1GB of OCZ and buying 2GB just to cater... I suppose I'll need it eventually anyways, but still.. so frustrating how much RAM it eats. even on my system which is generally a cut above, the game still lags esp. at the beginning of the map. sucks.

At settings of 1600X1200 with all the eye candy enabled it is definitely worth upgrading from an X800XT PE. I moved the afore mentioned card to my secondary machine and passed on the 9800Pro to a friend.

But back to the topic at hand. I play mostly mmorpg's. In EQ2 it is definitely way better. I was able to use the pre-configured "high quality" mode and average 42fps through most of the game. Where on the X800XT PE, I was lucky to get around 25 at that setting. I had to set the X800XT PE on balanced mode and custom tweak some of the options down to get playable rates.

In DAoC, at 1600X1200 with everything at the highest settings, it doesn't even sweat, fluid smooth game play, even with a decent sized RvR battle going on around me. I would say 50-60 people on screen in the battle.

CoH, 1600X1200 with all the sliders to the right, which is 200% detail level on both world and people. No problems, bring it on, smooth no hitching.

WoW, of course there are no problems there. The worlds blandest graphics engine in a current mmorpg, doesn't even cause it to sweat.

Vampires Bloodlines, allows pretty smooth play at 1600X1200 with everythign cranked up as high as it allows.

Temple of Elemental Evil, again at 1600X1200 no slowdown smooth as butter.

It is defintiely a noticeable boost up from the X800XT PE. When it's at 1600X1200 with all the eye candy turned on.

If you don't play with all the eye candy turned on, then the benchmarks show the picture. For the most part there is very little difference between the two.

So to sum it up, if you play at 1600X1200 or higher with all the option maxxed out, you are doing yourself a disservice, if you don't buy this card. Allowing for the fact that you have the money to buy it, and aren't putting yourself in debt to get it.
