How does the +5.00 Volt reading affect overclocking?

I've heard that it's important to have the 12.00 Volt line stable when overclocking, but what about the +5.00 Volt line?

When I up the FSB (above 145) on my P41.6A I also need to up the voltage of course, but when I do that the "+5.00 Volt" reading in MBM5 drops below 4.90. (The 12.00 V line is fine though)

Nothing seems to help at this point to get my rig stable... (P4 1.6A, epox 4bda2+, samsung pc2700.)

What is the least the +5.00 Volt line should be? And would a better PSU help? (I'm using a 340W Chieftec/Siretec ATX 12V)

OK...first off the 5.00 volt is more important when it comes to ocing athlon rigs...the p4 is about the 12v line...

PLus the 4.9 you are seeing is still great and will within the spepcs of +/- 5percent...this is not your issue...you have something else holding you back....

1) what are your temps???
2) what is the vcore at now??
3) what are you memory timings set to??
4) what components do you have installed??
5) what memory ratio are you using?? what ever you set run memtest86 to test it...best ram tester...

too many other factors, but I can tell you pretty certainly that it ain't the psu or 5v line holding you back...now a 12v line dropping to 12.4 under load...that is something to worry about...I had a psu totally stable that would drop to 1.58v when the vcore was set to 1.775v under load and ran like a charm...

My 5V rail sucked on my Enermax. It stays at 4.76V under load, which is way outta spec. :(
