Hi
Ive been reading all the evolution threads posted lately and its got me thinking how does scienece explain ghosts?

Does science acknowledge them, or just say they dont exist.
I have watched countless programs about them, and although I havent personally experienced seeing one I do beleive.

A person renting out my Uncles house said that on a few occassions they could hear someone walking up and down the hall. She was some sort of spiritualistic person.
My uncle died in that house, so did my Grandfather. I think my great grandfather died in there as well. Ive been in there before a few times, but never at night, and never heard or seen anything extraordinary. The house next door has a well that is haunted to.
Some guy stabbed his wife and threw her down an old well to her death.
2 Haunted places within 50metres of each other. That weird.

Anyway, all you Anandtechers please give me your thoughts and theories on Ghosts.

if a stabbing makes a place haunted all of east LA is haunted

She didnt die from the stabbing. If you read it, it said she fell to her death.

yeah shady06 people who are stabbed become vengeful spirits ghosts are people who fell get it straight. sheesh

It doesn't

You are making this rash assumption that ghosts exsist. IMHO they dont.

Keep an open mind. It's the attitiude that you currently hold that stalls scientific development. Copernicus was chastised by the scientific community for suggesting that the earth revolved around the son. So was columbus and quite a few scientists who dared question the norm.

Perhaps a better way of stating this question would be:

How come current science cannoy explain the existence of ghost. Perhaps after a couple more centuries, we might actually have a grand unified theory that explains how everything works and is interconnected. Until then, there will always be questions.

To the people who claim that it doesn exist because science cannot currently replicate its existence- do you really believe that we have reached the peak of scientific development as to be able to explain everything?

Nicely put.

That is a pretty narrow minded assumption on your behalf.
Dont just assume im making a rash anything. bish!

I am almost 90% sure they do.
I know people that have seen them.
Shit, my friend was staying at a beach batch with his family and got thrown out of bed in front of them. This is a family of 5. 5 people making up a story, I dont think so.
They have never gone back. His family is straight up and Ive known him for 8 years. Its pretty hard to just write it off as an "Accident". "He fell out of bed and got thrown into the wall for fun" I dont think so.

When dealing with ghosts you have to have an open mind.
I never used to beleive, but ever since that thing with my uncle I have.
This is just my opinion, im not trying to start a flame.
But dont dis my beliefs.

He's not dissing your beliefs, but is simply pointing out a flaw in your question.

Science is only capable with dealing with known facts. No matter how much you believe in something, it you cannot prove their existence in a reproducible manner, Science cannot even begin to try to explain it. For that same reason, Science cannot explain the existence of God, as we have no reproducible evidence of his/her/its existence.

Well if people have them seen and experienced them, then they are fact.
Just because some people refuse to acknowledge them, doesnt mean they dont exist.
If science cannot prove their existence it doesnt mean theyre not there.

BAD EXAMPLE BELOW.
Thats like me turning my back, and saying I refuse to believe you replied to this post.
Then just ignoring your post. Just becuase I refuse to acknowledge your post, doesnt mean its not there.

The problem is that science starts with observation. Since not everyone can observe a ghost, science cannot be used to try and explain them.

I noticed that a few posts have hinted at the reason i beleive in ghosts is drug abuse.
Is that the way people pass off not being able to explain something around here?

If you cant explain something you just say hes on acid, or smoking the chronix.
Thats pretty lame.

ghosts are beings living on more dimensions than we are. like the hypercube can almost not be visualized in the mind but it's cut with 3d space can be visualized.

ok after my load of BS i get back to other threads😛

(btw interesting subject... i mean the hypercube)

Note that I didn't say that they don't exist, but you cannot give me a rock hard proof that they do, either. If I were to claim that they do not exist, there would be no definite way to refute me unless you showed me a ghost personally. This may make me a "doubting Thomas," but I'm no less wrong than you until you have proven otherwise.

In terms of your example, I could provide a printout of my post as reproducible evidence that my post does indeed exist. You would be able to see my post, regardless of whether or not you actually look at it.

You logic is flawed. Personal experience and percecptions do not constitute facts.

If the existance of ghosts cannot be proved how do you expect science to explain them?

Lethal

If you can't reproduce it and test your theory, it's not open for scientific interpretation. Try"catholic chruch" and "pugatory" in google. It's infallable.

PS I've heard when researchers go out on these ghost hunting expeditions they usually do find the source of the "ghost" it's a light variance, shadow or a tree hitting the side of a house by the winds force etc.. they have never failed to find a scientifc explination aka physical phenomina AFAIK.

It IS a scientific matter, these ghosts. Science is about trying to explain what we do not understand. We do not understand what these people are seeing, AND we do not understand why it isn't a repeatable occurence. It is a scientific matter to explain why these people are experiencing something. If the answer happens to be mass delusion, then so be it.

A phenomena does not have to be repeatable for it to exist. It is a scientific matter to explain why it is (apparently) unrepeatable.
