Working a graveyard shift for about 9 months now. I got a new job working 7am to 5pm. What would be the best way to change my sleeping habits without resorting to pills. Anyone have a similiar situation happen to them before like this?

Stay up for 24 hours one day. That'll put hair on your chest .

Thats actually what I was thinking would probably be best although it will be rough.

This should work pretty well. My work schedule has varied from going in at 530A and getting out at midnight. If I get out at midnight, I'm usually pretty amped and wont go to sleep until 2A or 3A. Switching over to the early shifts usually is just a matter of robbing myself of sleep and playing catchup in a 15 hour snoozefest that puts me in alignment with the new schedule.

Just try sleeping a little less instead of skipping it completely.

I switch from third to normal on the weekends and usually pull on all-nighter the day of my last shift (i.e. if my last day is a Thursday, I stay up till around 10 pm on Thursday). Still, it'll take time to get your body in synch, so discipline yourself away from naps, etc. that may disturb the sleeping schedule for 3-6 months. Try to at least keep about the schedule on weekends for the first month.

This is what works best for me ... doing the 24 hour marathon is just too painful.

You are worried about shifting to a day shift schedual???? What's the problem, most of us graveyarders do it every weekend. It is easy to shift to a day schedual... now changing to a graveyard cycle takes some doing.
