You think I'd be making this much of a hissyfit if it was pirated:confused:? Because of the fact I legitimately purchased it, and I've got the box and EVERYTHING, I fscking want a working disc, is that so much to ask? I don't want to have to bittorrent the damn disc, with questionable data.

Why not just try the toothpaste idea others have mentioned?

Because it's abraisive.

The way you fix CDs is to psuedo grind the scratches out. Covering them up with wax and such will not allow the laser to hit the foil and come back effectively.

I have this thing called Skip Doctor (or somthing like that) ... its pretty much a CD/DVD cleaner with an small eletric moter & some solvent in a squeeze bottle.. its worked very well & fixed all but the deepest scratchs for me... its expensive if you pay retail at approx $29 but I got mine at a computer show for $8.

or you could just download a 98 floppy disk image from the internet (make the floppy disk), and make a bootable cd with it and put the win98 folder on it. (you only need the files in that folder to install '98). PM me if you need help with that, I've done it dozens of times.

Fill up sink with warm tap water. Drop CD/DVD in, count to 5, take it out, pat it dry.

No idea why, but it works every single time for me.

I used to be an auto painter, and I've used automotive buffing compounds with a 100% success rate thus far. start with a medium to light grit compound for a short amount of time with light pressure, then follow with a non-abrasive polish. But be careful... as someone stated above, you can go too far if you do it for too long.
