Nissan is in the bottom half of all manufacturers and well below industry average.

It also places Mercury, Buick and Cadillac above Toyota! :Q

Keep in mind this is for 2003 model-year cars.

I'm just pointing out that statistics like that are far from the only thing to consider when you buy a car.

Especially since they are survey-based. It's a good place to start, but yeah, far from any sort of end-all decision making guide.

2003 Nissan Frontier XE Xtra cab

4 banger 5 speed. 108000 miles bought it new.

25-30 mpg depending on driving conditions. Only problem was 1 bad coolant hose.

I looked at this and the Toyota small PU at the same time, it came down to price and features.

For $2000 less than a comparable toyota, I got the xtra cab, CD player, and nicer wheels.

Nissan is ok in my book.

Um.......your point. Since 2003, Cadillac's, Buicks and Mercury's have gotten much better. Is it so strange for luxury brands to beat out an economy brand 😕. Believe it or not American cars are good cars, shocking I know.

I have 2003 Mercury, nothing but oil changes so far. Mercury and Buick are actually good, maybe not most interesting cars, but nevertheless. Also, neither have compact cars, all are SUVs or decent sedans.

Are you gonna drive the 2.5 or 3.5? Let us know how it goes... I'm considering a 2.5 Altima for the fuel econ.

I don't understand why this is surprising. The "all domestics sux0rs at teh reliability" is just an internet myth. The actual truth is that domestic reliability is just not very consistent, with some brands way better than others.

I've been looking at them for the girl. The 2.5 is pathetic power wise.

Want to try the 3.5, i swore I'd never get another 4 banger after being stuck with a 105 hp Jetta that takes forever to get to 40 mph. 😀

Haha, I said I would never get anything less than a V8 when I got my car 5 years ago... but I can't live with 12mpg much longer.

My father has a 99 Pathfinder with >125k miles on it, and the only thing he had fixed was the sticky gas peadal (sticks up)
I have a 99 1/2 Pathfinder with 105K and I had to replace the cadalytic converter. Other than that I really like my pathfinder.

When compared to the 3.5 yes.
When compared to the other 4 bangers in its class, it's actually one of the more potent ones, if not the most.

Okay, so where does Mazda fit in?

My 94 Miata is still going strong and I had a supercharger on it for 3 years. It has 111k miles. Never gotten stuck anywhere either.

*knocks on wood*
