I heard that the co-founders were recently added to the list of 587 world-wide billionaires!

How does google make so much money?

Has it IPO'ed already?

Google makes oodles of money from advertising and site-based integrations of their search engine.

Plus, I think they farm out usage data to unknown numbers of companies for even more money.

They're still not publicly owned.

You do realize that companies bid for the top spot on just about any search phrase, right? Very popular phrases can cost a lot of money for the top spot.

edit: and it is pay per click.

Whenever you search for something and you see all those ads on the side and you click on them....they get their $$ from that.
This is the most successful form of internet advertisement and thats how Google get their money.

Regarding "pay per click," it that just for the colored ads on top and in the right-side box?

I'm not positive about google, but most companies it is PPC on all of them. If you want the colored ads you pay extra for the premium placement. Check out the link above..it will explain most of it.

If that phrase or search criteria is a popular one, then yep.

I highly doubt "fobot" is one of the most popular phrases/search items.
