I remember seeing a link several months ago that compared all the CPUs available at that time, but can't find it now :( Also Brisbane & E4300 weren't available then.

I have a Core Duo 1.66GHz running on a Dell laptop with Go7900GS and it decodes (with about 50-80% CPU usage) most 1080p trailers from Apple site in QT format. But I doubt any of these goes above 6/7Mbps and BD/HD-DVDs go up to 3 times in bitrate. I tried a sample with about 30Mbps max bitrate and my CPU just couldn't keep up after a few seconds even with help from 7900GS.

So, how does current X2 Brisbane & E4x00 CPUs compare? From Anand's article, even an E6600 can't handle all BDs without GPU help. I'm sure an E4300 @2.6GHz can though. This review probably used only online trailers that's why most of them worked, but I'd like to know where my current setup stands.

Thanks.

No one :( I can find lot of comparison between T2700 and T7200 as they are both mobile procs. But I am looking for core duo laptop vs core 2 duo desktop /brisbane ...

X2's and Core duo's perform pretty similarly at the same clock speed, core 2 duo will have an advantage at video encoding over the other 2.

Thanks firewolfsm. If performance per clock is close to what I have, E4x00/6x20 is probably the only way to go. The only reason I am still thinking about AMD is because when quad barcelona is here, I could just drop the proc if I go with AM2 now. I know I could do that with Intel too but I have a feeling that there will be some low end quad core barcelona cheaper than Intel at launch.
