How does cool n quiet work?

I was putting together a new computer for someone, and grabbing the latest drivers off MSI's website, saw a listing for Cool n Quiet, which ended up being just a couple system files & an inf file.

So what, does Cool n Quiet require drivers to work? XP doesn't pop up with a device listing for it.
 
enable cool n quiet in bios and then go to power options in control panel and set the power scheme to minimal power management to enable cool n' quiet.

It boosts your cpu to its rated speed when it needs more power.. until then, it slows down if you don't need all that processing power. Thus, slower running CPU = cooler temperatures..

BTW, you won't notice applications running slower b/c if it needs more processing power, it will automatically increase CPU speed according to the demand.
 
Cool & quiet actualy lowers the multiplier of the cpu & lower the voltage to it also when it's idling,once you need cpu power it goes back up to it's max speed and you will not notice it. 🙂


First enable cool & quiet in your bios then download and install this driver http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/amdcpu.exe after you reboot go to power option in control panel & select minimal power managent in your power scheme.

and that's it cool & quiet should be working.
 
Is there a reason for the "minimal power management" setting? I mean, on my own Athlon XP system I've got that option too. Is that just where AMD stuck in some custom settings behind the scenes?
 
the settings are hardwired into the cpu -- adjusts on the fly of the multiplier to cope with the cpu load
in effect it is like speedstep version 2.0 ( early speedstep only has high/low setting) cool'n'quiet usually flucuates between 3 settings that I can see
