I have been a marijuana user for a long time (about 7 years). I smoke high-grade marijuana on a daily basis. Sometimes I smoke a little before work. I find I am able to still perform above and beyond co-workers even under the affects of 'pot'. I was debating last night with my roomate about taking a break to see if I would perform any better on the job. Anyone have any experience in this area ?;)

Bad bad forum to post this to.
Full of conservatives and little kids that have no exposure to it except what D.A.R.E has brainwashed them with in school.

I've never used drugs and I find that I perform better than most stoners who are staring into the empty Dorito bags wondering what happened to all the love.

Taking a break for a few weeks to a few months clears your mind of the build-up. THC literally builds up between your synapses, actually clogging your brain.

Nice try you will have less IQ than if you are not on it, perhaps you are just that much smarter than them. However it is illegal and will get your ass fired.

I personally have a little wine once in a while. I am not an abuser of any other substances besides Marijuana and occcasionally alcohol. I doubt I could get drunk on a daily basis (especially before work) and be as succesful as I am.

I obviously am aware of the legal ramifications that marijuana use imposes. I take the necessary steps to "legally" pass my occasional, and extrmemely rare, drug examinations. I am really interested in some habitual marijuana smokers out there relaying their experiences with 'Work + Pot'. How does it affect your performance, both long-term and short. I know the general feeling is that it would impede performance, but in my case that is just not true. I am hailed as one of the most productive network engineers in my company. I work hard and put in, what I feel is, my 100%. But I love the feeling of getting up early (before the sun comes up) and puffing a little bit. I play on my computers as the sun comes up and I feel great! I then go off to work feeling refreshed and ready to work...excited to work! I have practiced this method for years. I know it would be initially uncomfortable to stop this. But if it would be a positive change then I will consider it.

Well, I never said I hate marijuana. I said it's good to take a break. Believe me, I have plenty of personal experience. I pass drug tests by quitting and drinking lots of water for a couple weeks. I've never had a problem.

Considering that the rest of your coworkers are strung out smack fiends, that may be true. A turtle is also running at 100%, but he's not moving very fast.

You are clearly dependent on weed which equals ADDICTION. The fact that you think it would be difficult to stop shows that the drugs are using you. Too bad.

DefRef: to clear up a few things. None of my co-workers are pot smokers ( a few drinkers though). They are just not as interested as I am in computers.
I CHOOSE to smoke marijuana. I have had alot of experience with drug addiction in the past. Beleive you me, I could not blow coke before and after work everyday without becoming a raving cocaine fiend (have you ever seen one of those? Not a pretty site) I will agree that I am addicted to pot. Just as I am addicted to alot of things (like Computers). The question is not the nature of the addiction, because we ALL have our addictions, more the consequences of exercising those addictions.

Most of your are using software written by the great MS.
Read their history.
For "stoners" they are sure well owning the world and your box as we speak.

SammySOn: I run only 3 OS's currently.....Debian GNU Linux, BeOS Proffesional, and MacOS 8.6. At work I do use Microsoft software (mainly Win2k), but mostly Solaris.

It's obviously killed the brain cell that tells you that a lot is two words.

Just because he made a gramatical error in his post doesn't mean he has lost any brain cells. Instead of criticizing this man for his habit, why not just leave the thread alone and let the people who this thread was meant for answer the question?
