How does Canada's RCMP compare to the US' FBI? Can you even compare them at all?

The US intelligence just makes my jaws drop. The scope of their existence and operations, the type of operations, their knowledge, the technology used, all that and more just seems to amazes me. I mean there's so many different intelligence agencies in the US as compared to Canada.

How does the US Marshall function? What services do they provide?

What is Canada's RCMP comparable to?

Seeing how the FBI and the SWAT team conduct themselves, it simply amazes me. I mean, they seem to be very professional fellow persons. With the flashy black suits and ties, and sometimes black shades :D Their secrecy and all. Are the FBI's highly skilled investigative units only accessible by the US government, and do not directly service the fellow citizens of America? I mean, you can't just call up the FBI and say you got a cat stuck up a tree and ask for them to help ya, eh? :D

Man, the RCMP seems to be out of fashion ;) Sure, the RCMP's gotten media attention over the past couple of years, but more bad media than anything else. People were pretty critical of them and their actions.

Just my thoughts of the day :)

Canada has our own "FBI" of sorts, its called the CSIS. Canadian Intelligence.
You shouldn't compare the RCMP to the FBI, that's like comparing Maple Leaf wieners to a steak supper. :)

Check em out. I'm interested to see what they do as well, I heard at one point that they're nearly as effective as the FBI, just ALOT lesser known world wide.

maybe its because the name's too long and its got 4-letter abbreviation as opposed to the States' FBI. FBI just seems to snap, easy to remember, and sounds WAY kewl :D

We need reform in Canada, and we need it now!! hehe :)

Thx for the linky.

The RCMP is unique in that it is a nation wide police force, in addition to the city police of each city. I don't think there is a US equivalent?

RCMP drive Crown Vics and 2002 Impala's guys...layoff the horses.

The RCMP isn't really an intelligence service...just a really good cop force nationwide, thus with quite a bit of high tech goodies down in Vancouver and Ottawa (Or whatever major city)

A simple question probably asked millions of times before:

Are RCMP a separate entity, or are they a part of the government in that it plays a role in providing public service on behalf of the government, thus their actions and such are influenced DIRECTLY by the government??

They're the government's police force. Why do ya think Chretian got in all that trouble when they pepper sprayed those people in BC or whatever a while back? They're joined at the hip. :)

With the FBI's current track record, maybe they should take some lessons from agencies like The Royal Canandian Mounted Police. Or interpol,or the KGB. They damn sure haven't impressed me lately.

While we're on the topic of RCMP, educate me a bit more fellas....

The crown vics that they drive, are they modified or simply standard vics you can get anywhere else?

NSA = Communications Security Establishment and the Canadian Forces Information Operations Group
CIA = Canadian Security Intelligence Service
FBI = Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Lightly modified, probably shocks, tires/wheels, a wee bit of motor work. My cousin is in the RCMP, and I had a go at him in our 76 Monte Carlo w/ 400. He never had a chance. :) If you see one on the highway trying to pull you over, and you feel like going to prison for 10 years after you have a little fun, you should certainly be able to outrun them with a stock Camaro or maybe even a Mustang. The Camaro highway patrol is another story though. :)

lol! Maybe if you can lend me your Camaro, and the fellow chasing after me was your RCMP friend, and he can cut me some slack eh? ;) *wink wink*

Tell him to leave the pepper spray @ the office, I don't need none of those, I've got a 6-pack with me ;)

Uhh... here by Edmonton, there was a several hour chase which the RCMP spike belted one of their own cruisers, and 2 lost control and flipped in the ditch. The chase probably would of never ended if the guy didn't run outta gas...
