How does Baldur's Gate 2 hold up after all these years?

Played it once (and the expansion), it fucking rocked. Tried it again a few years ago and couldn't get into it. Dunno why. I dont think it was the graphics, maybe I was just busy. Anyway...is it still fun to play now or super dated?

If I end up playing it, anyone wanna recommend some mods please?

I guess you'd just have to try it. I never play old games--almost. I recently started Diablo 2 out of the blue and played it through again, actually enjoying it quite a bit. I had not touched the thing in a decade so had really forgotten much about it. Other than the graphics looking a bit old it otherwise felt new as a result of 10 years of memory loss.

It's the same as it was years ago. From my perspective, what's changed is that I crave an online multiplayer Neverwinter Nights type of experience.

I find Diablo 2 about unplayable now because of graphics. Enjoyed Icewind Dale 2 though.

Hand drawn art ages extremely well. It's one of the main reasons why I can still play (and enjoy) games like Baldur's Gate and Age of Empires II.

For me BG (the entire series) is classic and on the top of my all time best list. it is great to play from humble beginnings all the way through... well, The end.

For me, it holds up extremely well. Yeah, the graphics aren't the shiniest or the most eye popping. But they aren't glaringly ugly either. But for me it is all about the journey. The story is EPIC. the characters are memorable and enjoyable. And there are a fair number to play around with.

As for mods, I would recommend going over to gibberlings3.net and see what is available. I would strongly recommend BG Tutu (for playing BG1 in the BG2 engine). Also recommend 'unfinished business'. I would NOT recommend playing the conversion to 3E as it breaks a lot of stuff.
