How does anemia work?

Apparently my friend's mom is in the hospital for anemia 🙁

Google just brings up lots of technical stuff that I can't understand..

It means you have a lack of iron in the blood, which means (I think) less haemoglobin. Its haemoglobin which takes up the oxygen, so if you have a haemoglobin problem, you can;t take up as much oxygen in the blood, so you don't get enough oxygen/your heart has to work harder.

I think.

Basically, you're red-blood cells are missing a component that carries the oxygen throughout your blood system and body.

When I first read the title of this thread, I thought it said "How does enima work?" Damn Fausto and his gutter thinking... dragging me down to his levels.
