How does Afghanistan of today compare with it 3 years ago

Less stable, position of women has not improved and the old time enemies which kept quiet during the Taliban reign are fighting among eachother again.

Go there and ask the relatives of those who were beaten, raped and executed by the Taliban regime that is no longer in power...

...go ask them and stop bothering us in ATOT with this stupidity.

It's a valid question. Regime change is not a smooth or easy process, and can have unintended side effects. I, for one, would like to know how it has progressed.

It is bad but better off than what Mullah Omar kept it as.

Rigth now afganisthan is HEAVILY divided amongst war lords.

If you go to northern parts, Ahmed Shah masood still lives and his supporters, the ethnic Tajikis, Uzbeks, Sharias control the governenace and the countryside.

In east and central parts, the pro pakistani war lords have their regime.

In south, Karzai handles his subjects trying his best but he is just waiting for that special bullet written for his death.

It is a lovely country and if you look non white, you shoudl have no problems mixing with locals and finding out what the reality is.

However if you carry and look American or white, I advise do not even go outsiode you hotel room without a convoy or support.

The US/UK/UN journalists have set up a internet center in Kabul General Hospital with UN help and they have a cyber cafe opened with a modem pool dial up connection to Peshawar, Pakistan.

I flew from Delhi to Kabul in Aryana Airlines, which is NOT a journey for the weak hearted.

The plane was a cargo IL 76 Indian Air force with temp seats bolted to the airframe and majoriy of the people sitting on the floor of the cargo bed.

They had huge drums of aviation fuel INSIDE the cargo hold .. the fumes from which made me puke. Never ever risking that.

With Iraq war starting, Afganishthan will be erased from memory and forgotten.

However, countries like India ( I still belive in the fact that Afganisthan is a part of india, it was just 200 years ago ), and pakistan are doing a lot to help the afghanis.

Indian government is openign a 600 bed hospital in Mazare Sharif called the "Ahmed Shah Masood Hospital".

All the voulnteers I saw .. doctors, nurses, engineers, mechanics were from India or some asian nation.

I had a good time .. I can understand Pashto and Dari to some extend and having an indian background . .. I was welcomed and treated very well.

One reason could be maybe I had a local zamindaar leader Sher Dil Khan as my guide .. a veteran of the Soviet war and Ahmed Shah's personal guard for some years.

Sher Dil = Lion heart

wnied.... care to explain why you consider the question stupid?

You should apologize to everyone in this thread for being a "little girl"... <<<<in reference to another thread

Basically the same or worse -> more fighting - the only region where it is/might be changing for the better is Kabul

The only difference :

"U.S.A has now military presence in a strategic cross road in between China, India, Iran and Russia"

End of story ...

Do you still believe in HUMANITY REASONS lies told to you by government through the media ?

Millions of attrocities against human values, human rights are commited everyday in various parts of the world but US government only intervenes where ITS INTERESTS are.

Gosh, if we're such a boogie man, why didn't your country give us access to Northern Iraq in fear of reprisals?

Just like EVERY OTHER COUNTRY! Do you think France is protecting Iraq because it loves peace, no, they are huge trading partners! Same with Russia. I forgot, its ok for other countries to do it, but not the US.

Seeing as you are from Turkey, your country will enjoy the monetary gain it will receive from allowing US troops in.

Sorry, I must have missed those humanity lies. I could swear that I was told we were going into Afganistan to destroy the Al Qaeda bases and topple the government that supported them.

#1. Less population density
#2. lots of "Hills" generously created with the donation of 2000 lb steel "sledding hill creating" devices.

1. My country (Turkey) has not agreed to get "Financial Aid" from USA, but your government really tried !
2. Yes France and other countries who are against a war with Iraq are not really concerned about Iraqi citizens. It is again about power struggle

Question : Who will pay the damages, both in terms of human lives and financial loss at the end of this "meaningless war" .. Not USA ...

3. Is the threat of a terrorist attack against USA LESS today then what it was before you bombed Afganistan ? How are you convinced .. Flattening a country already deveastated by uncountable number of wars helps taht ? I doubt it ...

If you are really against terrorizm I think it is time to cure the disease by making the gap between the hungry and the rich narrow ... (at least try to)
