Hey Guys

I am new to networking.I would like to know if VLAN tagging matters
with unmanaged switches ?

Also if I have computers on 2 seperate networks connected to the same unmanaged switch, will the computers on the same network atleast be able to talk to each other ?

Thanks
Kimmy

It doen't know what to do with the tags.

I assume by network you mean different subnets? They'll work.

Does it matter? It matters if you want to use VLANs. I don't believe an unmanaged switch will allow you to use VLANs, which require configuration of the switch.

Yes, you can have as many networks (subnets) on the same switch as you like. But without VLANs they'll potentially be able to see the traffic to the other networks, so it may be a security concern. That's one area where VLANs come into use. VLANs allow you to (through software) segment your switch into smaller virtual switches, much the same as having separate physical switches that are isolated from one another.
