i know how the jammers work.. but do they just pick up on the signal the cops radar is putting out or waht? I understand there are different bands they use...

Sorta like a radio reciever. They scan a bunch of frequencies at once, and when something is detected, they make a bunch of annoying noises at you. Check this link.

<< Radar can also be used to measure the speed of an object, due to a phenomenon called Doppler shift. Like sound waves, radio waves have a certain frequency, the number of oscillations per unit of time. When the radar gun and the car are both standing still, the echo will have the same wave frequency as the original signal. Each part of the signal is reflected when it reaches the car, mirroring the original signal exactly. But when the car is moving, each part of the radio signal is reflected at a different point in space, which changes the wave pattern. When the car is moving away from the radar gun, the second segment of the signal has to travel a greater distance to reach the car than the first segment of the signal. >>

thats interesting

Yup, radar is based upon simply physics. Smack a tuning fork in front of a radar gun and it'll show the speed that the tuning fork is oscillating at. That's what people are talking about when they complain about the radar gun not being calibrated. Idea being that you know how fast the tuning fork is oscillating, so if the radar gun doesn't show the right speed then you know the gun is off. The fork I saw moved at 55mph.

Radar waves spread out over a distance which can make it hard for a cop to figure out which car is speeding. Something like 3 or 4 lanes wide at 1/4 mile. Lidar spreads out as well, but not nearly as much. Maybe only like 3ft at 1/4 mile. Which is what makes it so bad for the speeder. By the time their detector shows a lidar hit it's pretty much time to pull over because the cop already knows your speed.

oh i know, that damn laser guns they have........ thats why youd need to buy a separate laser jammer.....

If you're caught with one of those, do not pass go, do not collect $200, go directly to jail. Not only do you have the FCC to worry about (interfering with radio transmissions), but in most states it is illegal to hamper a cop in doing his job. He'll haul you off to jail if he sees his gun acting up as he points it at you. Well, that's for radar jammers at least.

Passive jammers are worthless, active jammers will send you to jail. Send your money to me instead.

Since lidar is just light waves, your best defense is to paint your car flat black and remove all chrome and front license plate. The light needs something to bounce off of.

Front plate covers are worthless, cept for maybe giving you an extra two seconds to slow down as the cop reaims and hits your hood or different part of your bumper. There really isn't any way to jam light, cept for maybe your own huge light source (747 landing lights on your front bumper maybe).
