How does a hair know how long it's suppose to be

it doesn't grow back longer and thicker, it grows back just the same.

I have no idea how they know how to stop growing at the right length, though.

I have yet to get an answer from anyone about this. The best I've gotten is that the weight of the hair triggers info in the folicle to stop growing but that seems far-fetched at best.

Hair follicles produce hair for a genetically predetermined time then rest. When this happens, the hair falls out. It then starts over again. This on/rest cycle is what determines what the ultimate length of hair in any individual will be.

Cuz you asked.

🙂

Each hair folicle has an embedded ROM chip that measures folicular activity 24/7. The chip is programmed at conception to shut down growth activity at a pre determined time interval based on the length, girth and depth. If I go any further into the biometrics I'll get banned, so just use your imagination.

<< Your hair is considered dead. It grows even after you die. Kinda scary. >>

That's actually false. Your hair and nails stop growing when you die. What happens is that your body will actually shrivel a little bit after you've been dead a couple of days, most likely due to simple dehydration, and your fingers will pull themselves back so that more of the nail is exposed. Same thing with hair.

And we have a winner. Listen to Hayabusarider...
