How does a GTX 560TI 2GB SLI setup compare to a single 7970 at 2560x1440 on BF3?

What settings? I generally get 50-70FPS @ 2560x1600, Ultra settings, 7970 @ 1300/1600

I hate to highjack a thread, but that's crazy. I have crossfire 6970's and I dip below unplayable frames even on high settings at 2560x1600. Not sure if my i7-920 at 4.0Ghz is the problem or if I'm confusing low frames with microstutter.

You can run Afterburner, Coretemp in the background, and you should be able to tell what's what. Just make sure you select the FPS meter for AB.

I have mostly all high settings on my GTX 295 and I hover around 40 and never dip below 28. o_O

At that res 2gb's isn't enough vram for BF3 on Ultra.

His performance is obviously without MSAA and Transpareny AA, perhaps HBAO aswell.

560ti SLI will be faster than 7970, but you have the usual multi GPU problems to put up with etc. and no upgrade path (SLI/CFX).. So although it may be slower I would probably go for a 7970 myself, plus you have the option to upgrade to CFX later on.. you may even consider 7950 if you plan to go CFX later on.

The new patch gave 79xx users a decent boost. The game plays smooth as butter. I'd be happy to post a video if people would like.

No, I said Ultra settings, go back and reread my post if you missed it: that's 4x MSAA, HBAO, everything.
Dude at your speeds its faster than a gtx590 and 6990.. crazy for a single card. :D
These new cards have tremendous muscle once you overclock them. I'm actually surprised at how some people still don't think it possible, even though reviews have shown it is.

So the video is a no go since the I/O of recording 2560x1600 actually chops 10-15% off my FPS, even though it's going to a different HDD. However, I just played a bit on Caspian and Damavand Peak and took screen shots as I was going along. I used a larger FPS display so it's easier to see, and I don't think the FPS went down too much just by capturing. If people want to see other levels, let me know.

^ Very impressive MrK6. Looks like even during explosions it doesn't dip below 40fps.

OP - From most of the benchmarks I looked at SLI 560Ti's is a bit faster than a stock 7970. When you take overclocking into account, the 7970 is a good deal faster.

Argggg. I wanted to order everything at once and do a complete system rebuild, but screw it.

I might just order the GA-HD7970 next weekend and get the rest of the parts when they available.

I'm not even sure if waiting or Ivy Bridge is even needed since the perf increase is only estimated at ~5-10% in best case scenarios.

I do play with Differed AA off and I also use SABO. With my current SLI setup I am getting 55-60 frames all time in every map. I use Vysnc. I would like to get a 7970 if it could play the game at the same settings and get the same amount of frames 55-60 with no dips really. My SLI setup can do that. The reason I am asking about the single 7970 is, this SLI setup gets hot and loud. I would like to have a quieter system. And I can not put on any aftermarket coolers because I have no space for it with my motherboard. And I do have good airflow. So the question is can a single 7970 run BF3 at what I play it now...

How does a GTX 560TI 2GB SLI setup compare to a single 7970 at 2560x1440 on BF3?

It's about the same speed as GTX470 SLI from Nvidia's camp (seen in metro). Between a 580 and 590 about equal to a 7970. See where it falls in performance wise with other Nvidia products against the Radeons (basically equal to the AMD 7970):

Then take BF3 (before the patch) Nvidia had a substantial lead over AMD, especially with AA. Even though the 560 SLI isnt present on this graph you can get an idea of where it ends up at - near a 7970 somewhere.

Dam I just don't know. Its either going to be about the same performance or its going to be a little below. What should I do darn it! I should mention I actually tried a 7950 and it was not nearly as good as the SLI setup. It would get the same max frames, but it dipped alot more then the SLI setup it would go into the low 40's

Get the 7970, microstutter is horrible if you get it. It's a no-brainer for me.

Some people claim not to get microstutter, however I believe they just don't see it. Dual GPU setups are the worst as far as microstutter. 3 or 4 GPU microstutter is much less apparently.

OP, just to be clear... do your GTX560's have 2GB each, or are you adding the 1GB or each card together? At that resolution it makes a big difference. Many people mistakingly think that memory is added when you go CF or SLI, so I just figued I'd ask you.

How much can you sell your 560's for? If you can cover the cost of one of the better 7970's (Sapphire dual fan) and put a nice OC on it, you will get more performance. Another option is wait for Kepler and hope prices are pushed down a bit (but that would also reduce used value of 560's).

I think I will wait for Nvidia's next cards. Just to see what they bring to the table. My 560TI's are slightly overclocked, and I have to admit it runs BF3 perfect butter smooth. And the noise from the fans I can't really hear over the game anyway. When are Nvidia's next cards due out anyway?

What about once you OC the 560's....

Either way I would take the single card solution over SLI any day.
