I am thinking of buying an item on ebay for about $400, but I want some sort of protection. If I were to pay with my cc through paypal and the deal goes bad, what exactly would I say to my cc company when I call them? Is it easy to get the money charged back or is it a real hassle? BTW, my cc company is Citibank.

It's very easy to get it back if you're the buyer. At worst, they'll put the $400 in your PayPal account and you can withdraw it.

However, if you're a seller, any old joe can submit a complaint AFTER YOU SHIP and you'll get screwed by the chargeback. I hate PayPal.

i bought an ipod on ebay that was advertised at BRAND NEW, and came all scratched up.

at first i issued a chargeback through mastercard, and they mediated it with paypal. mastercard removed my charge, and paypal paid mastercard, and dealt with the seller.

it was a lovely 3 month hassle.

i don't see how anyone really gets "screwed" in the deal, except that the original merchandise is forfeited to paypal upon chargeback, and seller only gets the monetary amount back.
