I've got a 16x10x40x LiteOn sitting right here next to me. I've burned at LEAST 500 cds on it, and ripped equally that many in the last 1.5 YEARS that I've owned it, I paid $75 for it new.

LiteOn, ECS and SIS are the 3 best things this industry has seen from a consumer perspective in the last 5 years.

very true

i dont care what the moron says about "assinine and humorous" statements...and im sure people will say the same thing about SIS and ECS. granted, they dont make the BEST stuff, but for example, take the ECS K7S5A...one of the BEST mobos all around ive ever seen. stable, works great, and is an AWESOME performance product for the price...SAME thing here for liteon

maybe a few years ago plextor was the champion, and im not saying they arent good drives, but why is it funny that someone is able to sell something just as good for half the price? wow, thats hilarious!

Look, if someone pays double what you did for the exact same thing only to get a different brand name then you better believe they will defend their product's superiority until their death. You could show them statistical data blah blah and they would still say 'Mine is better'. Of course when you asked 'Why?' they would respond with the normal I-have-no-idea answer... 'It just is.'

Blah :p

Go see the new Steve martin movie with Queen L and you will hear a lot of racist jokes.

True, I saw this movie thinking it would suck but the racist comments is what kept it alive.

Lite-On is also a major OEM dont forget. Sony, Cendyne, Verbatim, and plenty more are rebadged Lite-ons.

Lite-On does make a quality product but to say it's equal to a Plextor is a humourous and assinine statement.

And you sir, are talking out of your ass. I know I am not alone when I say that I've had two lite-on burners, and both have worked flawlessly. No coasters other than the rare occasion where I myself fubar something prior to burning :)

Now please enlighten us on how plextor is so amazingly superior.

I hate to be thread crapping, but the statment that Liteon can play with the big boys like Yamaha and Plextor in capability is crazy.

On the burning side, yes. They can keep up. But if you take a disc burned with a Liteon and a disc burned by a Yamaha at 48X and asked me which one would last 15 years, i'd be hard pressed to say equal.

Now, with my real experiences..

I took a disc that was scratched to hell. It still worked on my Yamaha 4X. Read decently fast.

Then I took the same disc over to my friends Liteon 32X. Took nearly 2 hours to install, after numerous file errors.

I'd say the major 'Quality' differences between Liteon and the higher brands is generally reading capabilities. Yamaha and Plextor will read discs your Liteon will cough up faster than a moldy sandwhich. This is first hand observation.

I wouldn't compare ECS to LiteOn.

LiteOn has managed to put out nothing but solid products for a long time, while ECS seems to be more of a crapshot.
The K7S5A is a perfect example, many people love it, but on the other hand a truckload of people have problems with it.

That's the difference between a company that simply puts out quality products for reasonable prices and a company that skimps on QA to put out a cheap product.

Here is my complaint about Liteon

Liteon has subpar read performance with heavily damaged/warped media.

DOH!

That's like something from a Simpsons episode.

"Hey Homer, whaddaya think about ECS?"
"Uhhh, they make those...table...board...thingies...I wouldn't really Compaq them to those other guys who make disc player thingies".

They lose money on every drive, but make up for it in volume!

If you lose money on EVERY drive, then the more volume you sell, the bigger your loss:confused:
Its more like, their profit margin on every drive is slim but they make up for it in volume.

You can't make a true comparison between ONE experience you had with ONE Lite-On and your ONE cd-rw that is supposedly better. There are so many variables involved and yes I am NOT going to list all of them.

Well i'm banking on several things here.

1. Everyone, even review sites, say that plextor/yamaha have awesome readers, and awesome reading ability.

2. I've tried this disc on several other cheaper CD-ROMs. None of them read it. Not even my playstation read it. That's how badly damaged it was. (Mixed CD. I read the audio part on my playstation)

3. The only drives I have found that will read it was a particular Asus 50X drive, and my Yamaha.

4. I couldn't even count the drives that wouldn't read this disc on my fingers..

It's not a single complaint with Liteon. It's a complaint with all cheap drives. Yamaha and Plextor simply have better readers. Espically plextor.

I will mention though, that this 'Strentgh' of the Plextor's and Yamaha's isn't important to everyone if they don't have damaged/warped discs.

That's actually not a matter of hardware. Both Plextor and Yamaha have automatic mechanisms that lower the read speed of drives down to 4x when it senses that the disk is badly damaged. Liteons don't have this option, but can easily be corrected by either installer nero drivespeed or lowering the read speed of the cd drive from the option menu for the cdrom.

ECS is the THE #1 Mobo manufacturer in the world. I've heard speculation that the K7S5A has sold several times more then ANY other motherboard of all time. I'm talking MILLIONS and MILLIONS of units shipped. (I've personally purchased and sold over 20 of them in the last 2 years) Thats not bad. On forums like this products like the K7S5A get more a bad rap because there are more power users here who view them as under-powered and are angry because they cant OC as well. But the fact of the matter is there are millions of happy K7S5A users around the world. More then any other motherboard has ever produced.

:) I am in college and I think that every person that has biased ideals should take my socialogy course, it will enlighten you to that fact that your racism, is bitting into the fact that the american capitalist society has created cast ethnicities so that the powers that be, and the upper echelon can still justify keeping money in the family, and keeping everyone out. Its unfortunate that their are still stupid enough people out there to think that there are seperate races of humans out there. Just think when you are saying racist stuff, are they being exploited, or are you????? Guess what the answer aint as easy as you think. Read a book, get some knowledge in your head, and contribute to the well being of humanity, what good is living if you can't live it happily.

By the way Lite-on rocks, great compnents for a great price, and they make plenty of money because they sell a lot of product for a 10% or more profit
