eh? you can get good mexican food here

West Coast: Fun, easy going place. Lots of very different things to do, not a good place to go if you have lived your whole life in Iowa...and LIKED it 😉 The kind of place where you can have a support the troops sticker on your car even if you didn't vote for Bush. Somewhere you can sit in the airport and hear 3 different conversations in 3 different languages, none of them English. A good place to get Chinese food and Mexican food cooked by people who grew up in those countries. The place to go if you think diversity is the root of America's strength, and enjoy different experiences and views, even if you don't always like them. Angry righties should probably stay away 😉

East Cost: More fast paced, not quite as much fun. But still a lot of different things to do. More so than the west coast, the type of place you go for action and excitement. I don't have as good an idea because I've never lived there, only visited. But I view the east coast as the type of place to go if you want excitement and adventure...the anti-Iowa as I think of it 😀

I really like both coasts...and I like the parts in between as well 😉 Just different things I like about them.

I had a lot of winkies in this one...interesting.

As far as the people go, I think people on the west coast like to keep to themselves and east coast people are more sociable. A big generalization but just what I've noticed.

it is all the same, everybody thinks where they live is cool

i have lived all over and it is all about the same, except the weather

lived in:

Oregon - 1966
Washington - 1966-1984
Florida - 1984
Washington - 1985
Idaho - 1985
Washington - 1986
Florida - 1986-1987
Idaho - 1987-1988
Washington - 1988-1992
New York - 1992-1998
Georgia - 1998-2000
Missouri - 2000 to present

any place is as good a place to live as you make it :sun:

Well east coast girls are hip
I really dig those styles they wear
And the southern girls with the way they talk
They knock me out when I?m down there

The mid-west farmer?s daughters really make you feel alright
And the northern girls with the way they kiss
They keep their boyfriends warm at night

I wish they all could be california
I wish they all could be california
I wish they all could be california girls

West Coast = Laid back, friendly, warm and sunny.

East Coast = Professional, rigid, cold and dreary 😉

it rains like 300 days out of the year in teh pacific NW, thats much more dreary then it is here in New England

I think the people in control of California and in particular Hollywood are too "liberal" in the senses of
(a) Being politically correct with the same humorless arrogant fervor of the Taliban, and equally ready to impose thier world-view on nonbelievers.
(b) Not believing in any boundaries of good taste. I'm not personally offended by naked body parts on television, but a lot of what I see on network television is a cesspool of crudity.
(c) Holding anything related to traditional religion, non-urban life and "family values" in contempt.

Oregon and Washington are liberal-leaning but not to the extremes that California takes.

The East Coast favors a more intellectual and elitist flavor of liberalism, mixed with hardness and self-absorbed lack of caring for anyone but themselves. Seinfeld was funny but I'd hate to have friends like them.

I actually grew up in Redondo Beach, CA, live in Seattle, and voted for both Clinton and (holding my nose) Gore and Kerry. But I'm not a Democrat, and don't agree with the extremism of either major party.

Good thorough answer, exactly what I was curious about. 🙂

Ann Arbor, MI is a mixture of both west and east coast with the charm of the midwest, IMHO. I like living here. 🙂

I travelled much of California recently and I generally was surprised by the people I met there. I expected much worse than I saw.

Been to the east a couple of time... meh... it's ok.

You are talking about large chunks of the country. I don't know that much about the West Coast, but the only thing the East Coast has in common with itself is the Atlantic Ocean. The New York City area is nothing like a fishing village in Maine, and both are a world removed from coastal, rural Georgia.

And then there's Miami...
