Ish, that many credit cards? Oh well...

I do cash, and I tend to have exact change right off the bat to save myself and the cashier time. :)

Check Card or automatic billpay through my bank...I haven't had any checks for almost a year now, and I rarely carry cash unless I'm going to the bar.

Hmm, I like the set up I have right now. Don't know when the last time I had cash in my hands that wasn't given to me as a gift.

1: Chase Freedom Cashback CC Visa (used by both my wife and I)
2: All paychecks deposited to one bank account (hers and mine)
3: Automatic Bill Pay to pay off full balance when bill comes (Through bank)

Getting $250 cash back every 6 months and never having to pay interest on a CC

Edit: Also Chase now auto adjusts your statement to apply the 3% cash back to top 3 categories that you used the most during that month. Which makes getting to $200 aka $250 cash back much faster.

This is basically my set up as well. I just recently (within 6 months) started using the Chase Freedom card, I dont know that my cash back auto adjusts categories or not. Did you have to call them and make a change or was it automatic?

I got a piece of mail one day telling me that my credit card has changed and that it will now apply the 3% to only the top 3 categories that are used during the billing period. I didn't make a phone call

Debit card for everything, it's rare that I have a dollar on me.

Though having been through a couple of events where every penny I own has been has been inaccessible for a few days to several months, I always keep a few thousand dollars cash on hand.

Eh? ATMs are everywhere. I have never had a problem finding one (from my bank) when I am out and about.

Also, my bank would charge me more to have unlimited debits, so instead I have a pay as you go account. I pay for a couple of online payments each month for CC and bills but my service charges are squat, as long as I don't use my debit card for purchases.

Question: WHY DEBIT? Is it because you guys cannot manage your money properly or is it because you like BoA's keep the change or is it because you're not old enough to get a CC? I don't understand

Credit Card rewards are usually better and I always use CC when possible. I do always carry cash on me though.

I pay for almost everything using my debit card. I hardly ever have cash on me and if I do it's usually only a couple of dollar bills.

Yeah that is what I don't get. My debit card now gives me cash back which I don't know how they are able to do this unless I use the card as credit. Anyways its only like .5%

I'm a college kid and never have cash on me. I don't use credit as I can't handle another bill. I'd rather just straight out use the money I know I have though debit instead of being charged interest down the road on stuff I know I could afford in the first place. The few places that don't take those usually have an atm near by so it's not a problem.

Credit cards FTW - I don't think I've been to any store in the last 4 or 5 years that doesn't take credit cards, including mom and pop places. Why use cash for anything when you can get rewards back along with the protection of credit cards (extended warranty, chargeback options if the merchant screws you, etc)? I regularly charge $3 or $5 or whatever the price is on to my cards no matter where I am or what I'm buying. About the only time I've gotten a little embarrassed was when I needed to charge around $.55 for a pack of gum or something. Still did it though! :)

The cards that I'm currently using:

1. Merrill+ Visa (1pt for $1 spent, basically 1% cash back as these points can be converted to GC's) + tierred rewards. This year, I qualified for Delta Crown Room, so that's another $400 on $50,000 spent, basically 1.8% cash back rewards (and yes, I've been coveting getting Crown Room membership badly for about 2 years now! Free booze FTW!)

2. Amex SPG - just got back from a free trip to the Bahamas, where we stayed at the Sheraton Cable Beach Resort for free. 4 nights at 40,000 points (eg. $40,000 spent) vs 4 nights at $300/night. That's basically 3% cash back.

3. Amex Blue for everyday spending to get the highest tiered rewards back (groceries and gas mostly)

I am your buddy, with a credit card. If an establishment does not accept credit cards, then I just don't go there.

I hate cash. And its a massive pain in the ass making special trips to keep a handful of bucks in my wallet. Honestly, I don't really know the ins and outs of an ATM...and if I can help it, I will die that way.

My credit card gives me a nice list of when and where I spent all my money.

And of course, cash back rewards.

I will charge $1.50 on my credit card. Why? Because I can!

The only thing that I sort of want to use that requires cash is a vending machine. And those will fall to the CC soon enough!

You think you'll never get hit with an overdraft fee when you use your debit card?

I almost never have cash, and usually go credit whenever possible, or debit if necessary (costco).

We pay for everything (save for bills that we can't) with a CC that earns us free hotel stays. We end up with about 6 free hotel nights per year.

Then we pay for all our other bills out of our joint checking account and xfer all but a few hundred bucks into our online savings account. That money sits there at 5.05% interest until the CC bill comes due, then we xfer money back to our checking and pay the CC in full.

On top of the hotel night stays we earn around $15 per month in interest on the CC balance, too, since the money sits in savings for a month.

I usually do not carry cash. I used to pay with my debit card all the time, now I use my credit card all the time. All of those reward points that I have missed in the past... sigh...

If I go out with friends, I try to take out cash if at all possible. Sometimes, I can't and it ends up working out (give or take a few bucks).

I always carry cash with me, even have some emergency cash stashed in my vehicle. You just never know where you're going to be, where you're going to get stuck needing cash, or if you don't have your credit cards with.

It's always a major PITA when I'm out with friends and no one has cash. some time ago got friends together one night, ate out then saw a comedy show - nobody had cash to divide up the restaurant bill - nobody had cash to pay parking at the theater. Had my friend in another car call me as we're parking, asking if the attendants accept debit cards. I just had to shake my head, get out of the car, and run across the parking lot to catch him as he's pulling up to the gates.

Carry at least *some* cash people... I'm tired of loaning everything out everywhere I go!

I think that I'd carry only a debit card as well if I had to carry around a bunch of dollar and two dollar coins the size of a drink coaster with me where ever I went!

Greenbacks FTW!

Credit for everything except food (usually). Easier to keep track of expenses and I can earn 3.75% on my money during the 30 day deadline which amounts to a dollar.

Ok, weak rant, but here we go. One of my buddies always likes to pay by debit card. I swear he never has cash on him. This can be a problem as not all stores, restaurants, etc. will accept debit. For instance: an arcade we went to last weekend, and a local cafe.

So I end up loaning him a few bucks and he'll either pay my share next time around or go to an ATM, get cash, then go somewhere else to get change. He always pays me back, but it's a bit of a pain sometimes. He doesn't seem to take the hint (I've mentioned it to him a few times) that he should hit the ATM regularly.

Seriously, how hard is it to carry a couple 20s in your wallet, maybe a few loonies and toonies in your pocket?

You are what is called an enabler.

Credit card except for buying lunch/drinks (<$20).

However, I have to pay for parking a lot (no pun intended) and most require cash, so I always have to have a good amount of cash on me.
