How do you use the mic in rockband?

I read the instructions but still have no idea what I'm supposed to do with the microphone? Any quick help would be appreciated - my girl wants to sing. She does play mean guitar though.

Last easy question - can I use my wireless GH3 guitar with rockband?

GH guitars work with Rock Band on the 360, not the PS3.

To use a mic you just use a regular controller for the console.

Uh...sing into it?

There are some parts during instrument solos where you sort of tap it against your hand in rhythm.

I don't understand the problem. Go to single player, pick quick play, follow on screen things, pick your song, sing it. What are you confused on?

Sorry, I'm lost.

How do you actually get the mic to be a part of the game? Does your voice come through the speakers? We have no problems playing multiplayer on the same console with drums, RB guitar and GH3 all at the same time - but the mic seems nothing more than a paperweight.

When you pick your characters, do you pick one for the mic? Do the words show up on the screen?

I had a short problem with this the first time I got Rock Band. Turn on a regular controller and the game will recognize that as the "singer" and that controls all the on screen menu stuff for the singer.
