How do you use an aux jack to connect an iPod to a car?

Depends on the Aux-input. My headunit uses RCA inputs with a fairly high impedance. In addition to an RCA-->1/8" adapter, I'm using a cMoy headphone amplifier to boost the signal to a normal level. It works without the pre-amplification, but doesn't get loud enough.
Or you can max. the volume on the iPod?

it's stupid that more car manufactures aren't including this from the factory - instead leaving it up to hobbiests to create their own... THe subaru crowd has been in the same boat and I was left to purchase a similar board to that in order to hack in an aux jack for my car.

2007 subaru's have an aux connector where the cigarette lighter goes. I unfortunately didn't know about this and now have to spend $400 to get the factory cd player with the aux cable/connector ;(

I would recommend going to walmart. They sell belkin brand there, it will probably be as cheap as the radioshack brand cable.

thanks tyrant! i just went over there and found one for less than 5 bucks...belkin too...seems to be pretty decent quality.

i just wish it wasnt 6 feet long lol

one side was too small for either the ipod jack or the aux jack, and one side was perfect (the bigger side).

its an 07 camry.

Anyone know what i am talking about now (as in what size is appropriate)?

thanks

I hooked my iPod to my dad's 07 Camry with no problems. The only caveat was that the volume was very low, so you had to "blast" it to get normal volume. The bad thing about that: switching to the radio or a CD with the maxed out volume. 🙂

Btw, I bought it from Monoprice.com, here's the direct link. That site is awesome for cheap, quality cables.

EDIT: It's $1.70 there, which is very cheap.

EDIT2: I see you bought one already. Yeah... 6 ft is the shortest you can buy.
