How do you update a BIOS with no floppy?

My PC has no floppy, as I saw no need for it, but it needs a BIOS update. Unfortunately, Gigabyte only provides an old-fashioned updater that requires a floppy disk to run the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

I've heard USB Flash drives can be made bootable. Is this possible?

I do it by creating a bootable CD-RW using Nero.
My flash utility does not backup on the floppy. So, this works for me.
If your utility needs to backup the BIOS before flashing it (I know some do), it will attempt to write onto the floppy, which will fail and the flash will not go through. So, there is no way to know unless you try.

This & RAID drivers are about the only reason I still have a floppy drive.. try the bootable CDR & hopefully it will work fine, just select no when it prompts you to backup the old BIOS, however I suggest placing a copy of your original BIOS on the CDR too just in case.

Asus & several other MB makers now include a built-in utility within the BIOS that will allow flashing it without any media involved in the boot process & some like MSI allow flashing from within Windows too, although I'd suggest against it.

Flash-drives can be made bootable, but I've never had a reason to do it so I can't offer any advice on how to set it up, also not all MB's support it... consult your manual for info.

Most gigabyte Mobo's will update the BIOS From within Windows using their @BIOS App. Without knowing the model number of yours I am unable to give a specfic link. The Info is avail. at their web site just search by your Mobo #. I have used this method in the past with no problems on the 965 S3 and DS3 series.

@BIOS If you follow the instructions in the @BIOS link you will not need to download the BIOS separatly as you will select it during the process. Take your time! read the instructions VERY carefully follow them to the letter and it should work fine.
