How do you think? Did the dentist lie to me?

The problem here is that exactly 10 days ago I had a wisdom tooth out, the three ones are OK, but that fourth was growing wrong. The dentist told me it would be best to take it out completely, instead of operating on the gum and saving the tooth (it won't help blah blah blah, the gum tissue will regenerate in a week and you'll still have the same problem). He promised it would be great in the end and that the gum where the tooth grew would be just normal, plain gum. So I let him take my wisdom tooth out. He told to be exceptionally careful within a week, everything seems fine, it doesn't hurt. However, I feel cheated. I mean, he told it would be just plain gum, but it seems like there's a crater in there and all the food gets inside, man. There is a cavity, and I'm not sure it would change for the better with time.
I started this thread b/c I don't want to call that dentist, BTW, he isn't easily reachable by phone, heck. And it's a pain getting all the food out of there with a toothpick. Heck, now I feel like a Mr. Crippled or something. Maybe it's b/c he decided he wouldn't sew the wound up or whatever was left in place of my tooth "not to irritate it".

So if any folks here had their wisdom tooth(teeth) out without sewing up, what happened later on? Did it become OK, or will the cavity just stay in there? I guess in this case I'll have to go back to the dentist after some time to do something about it.

Heck, I know it's a silly thread, but others start threads like this, and this is my one and (I hope) only time I started a health related thread so sorry if you're disgusted to read it, maybe you shouldn't be. I mean, I'm sure you can have (or have) such things, too.

I had all 4 out at the same time (was in the military, they love to practise). It felt weird for a while. When it is healed it will be just like the rest of your gums, no craters, give it a couple of months.

I had all my wisdom teeth taken out... :D Yeah food was getting stuck in there for awhile... but i dunno i had it removed because i was getting braces and everything moved back to close the gap anyway. They usually give you a little curved syringe so you can just spray out anything that gets stuck.

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled the dentist gave me a syringe to squirt any food or junk that get stuck in the hole left from where the wisdom teeth were.

Wow, nice to hear it's not permanent. The greedy bastard didn't give me anything (but then, again, where I live dentistry isn't all that up to par, maybe, so it's better not to have any cavities and stuff, he-he).

It's been quite a while since I've had my wisdom teeth removed, but I remember there being a hole there and I can to clean it with a syringe (sp?) and water. It should close up soon (as long as you keep it VERY clean).

Yes there's a hole left behind, it will go away eventually.

Once a tooth has a cavity there is no way to get rid of it, but can be stopped by filling it.

Had mine done in January. The 'hole' does close up, but it takes a bit (4-8 weeks as I recall). Just keep it clean (to avoid infection) with the squirter they gave you or a water pick on the LOW setting. You'll be fine.

A gardan hose will get that hole clean, if it really bothers you stick a piece of corn in there.
