How do you test a PSU w/ no switch?

I know about the green wire - ground wire method, but that only worked when I tried it on a PSU w/ a switch on the back. I tried it on a PSU that does not have a switch, and it did not work. Any ideas?

Most powersupplies have to be under a load to come on. Hook up a hard drive or something.

Connect the green wire on the ATX connector to any of the ground (black) wires

If it works, it will come on, if it doesn't work then it won't come on! :)

I've tried that on a switched as well as a non-switched PSU. That trick only worked on the switched PSU. Yes, both of them did work when hooked up to a motherboard.

as Bozo1 said, there needs to be a load on the +5vdc 'rail'. check out Antec for an ATX power supply tester. just plug it in and the green LED tells you whether the suppy works or not. o switch needed.
