Maybe I misunderstood the Chip Codename article here at AnandTech, as I am still at a total loss as to how you would know which "CPU" type you are getting?

Northwood

Or

Prescott

?

I am looking at getting the Intel P4 3.0E 1MB L2 Cache CPU. What type is it?

Thanks for any clarity in this situation!

Prescott also comes in 2 slower "A" versions. 2.4 & 2.8. They do not have HT and have a 533mhz fsb, but they do have the 1Mb of cache.

There are also "A" and "B" Northwoods, in addition to the "C" models.

A = 400fsb 512K Cache
B = 533fsb 512K Cache
C = 800fsb 512K Cache

Any LGA775 P4 will be a Prescott

The LGA775 chips are all coded.

Ie Pentium 4 550, 560 etc

Every other P4 has a true MHz/GHz rating.
