I went to officemax to get a cendyne that was on sale for 19.99 and they were oos, but they odered one for me, it arrifevd in the mail today, but it was a verbatim, I was wondering if there was any chance of it being a liteon, or if I should try my luck and see if they will exchange it for a cendyne. But my question is how do you tell.

There usually is no trouble telling if you have a Lite On. It says "Lite On" right on the drive. :p

The last Cendyne I bought displayed "Lite On" at POST and in Device Manager, even before I updated the firmware with the latest from Lite On.

Other ways are the model #, which will begin with "LTR-xxxxx".

where on the drive does it say liteon usually. This drive has no names or marks indicating a manufacturer. The drive says Model:4816P No:501 Serial NO:99BOV125032529SWA000

Put a dB meter 2 feet in front of your PC. If it reads over 120dB you have a liteon.

Really? Mine doesn't seem to be too loud. My Creative 52x CD drive is 10x louder.

Well, for $20, a drive would have to be REALLY bad to make it not even worth $20, and the Acer isn't nearly that bad. For $20, its worth it.
