How do you stand using larger monitors on your desktop?

So since 21, 27, even 32" monitors are all the rage now, my question is how do you stand having something that big right there on your desktop?? I have a 17" LCD right now and that seems fine, having anything above that, doesn't it hurt your eyes/head having something that big a couple feet from your face??

no way, none whatsoever. most fonts are 14pt minimum, if i used anything smaller regularly it would drive me nuts, sure. itd also bother me if i was just 1 foot away from it, but its at the rear of a good-sized desk, and then im even further out because of the keyboard tray that slides out...so im great.

hell, id rather watch videos and whatever on this thing than my 32" CRT tv when I can.

The headaches/eye aches occur more in CRT monitors than LCD's although after using LCDs with a VGA connection for a while, I notice a dull ache in my eyes. IIRC the headaches/eye aches are more related to the screen refreshing rather than the size of the screen.

I use a 32" LCD tv, its 4-5 feet from me right now, i use large fonts and its no problem, no eyestrain, useing my GF's 19" CRT gives me eyestrain.

I used to think the same thing. I had a 22" at home, and use 2 19" at work; however, when I was told I would be getting dual 26's, I was WTF...

BUT

they are awesome. No eye bothers or anything. Which prompted me to order a 26 for home ;)

I use a 32" LCD TV as well, and it's not uncomfortable at all. In fact, it's much more comfortable since I can lean back instead of hunching over my display. Once I moved up to 32", my 20" monitor felt tiny and makes me squint.

Looks like I'm going to have to measure how far away from the screen I am when I sit at my desk...

i have a 30" dell monitor next to a 42" LCD tv (1920x1080) i use as a monitor connected to a diff PC.

only downside is i'd like the dells resolution on the 42" tv :(

how would a larger scree ngive you a headache if all pixels are the same size (dot pitch), i'd only get a headache looking at high pixels on a small screen (800x600) on 15-19in or 720p on 42in. at least i wouldn't like those on my desk when i'm sitting 3 feet away

I have the monitor set back from my eyes quite a bit. It's a 22". If I kept it as close to me as I did my 19 incher, I'd probably suffer from eye strain, especially when the room is dark.

I'm using a Dell 30" and it's probably the most comfortable display I've ever used. I like to sit where my field of vision encompasses the whole screen. On smaller monitors, even my 22" and especially my 17" laptop, I had to sit much closer to do this. On my 30" display, 2-3 feet is comfortable and everything is incredibly sharp due to the 2560x1600 resolution. I don't know if I'd fancy a 32" LCD TV, but I've never tried it so I can't say any more.

I use a 27.5" Hanns-G 1920 x 1200 LCD for everyday work (connected to a laptop with DVI output). It's great - no headaches at all. I'm up pretty close to it, maybe 18". It's great for programming and general office-type work. No headaches at all. I did try a 20" widescreen LCD for a week, but the pixels were way to small and THAT gave me headaches.

I'm approx 2 feet away from my monitor. Perfect distance away. I used to be 1ft away and yeah, it was great for games but it was too much.

I have a 24" LG, and I plan on getting a second one to go right beside it. You can't get too big, you never know until you try it for a few days. Then you will be like, how did I ever make it using such a small monitor. I only moved up from using a 19".

I used a 17" CRT for 10 years @ 2.5 ft away. When I got my 24" LCD in January, I had to position it 4' away -- and that's where it stays. Had to switch to Large Fonts @ 1920x1200 at this distance but I can never imagine going back to something smaller again. In fact, I was very close to going 22" but I'm glad I went bigger.

Now 32" is another story and no way it'd fit on my desk since I'd want it at least 5' away. Very sensitive to distance and prefer everything further away than friends/family prefer.

I have more of a problem if my eyes are closer to the monitor for long periods of time vs looking at a large screen, which lets you sit back a little more.

Of course some people get nausea playing fast paced games due to visual/physical equilibrium (similar to carsickness). In that case a large screen might be more of a problem, but I wouldn't know.

You can get to big... i have a 24" now, which I love--I purchased a 28" first and had to return it. I started getting headaches--I sit 3-4 Feet away--24" Is what I prefer.

Had dual 24s, went to a 42" 1920x1080 @ about 3 ft away. No headaches or anything. Honestly, I don't think I could go back to a smaller monitor. Love it!

I use a 30" + 20" portrait...no headaches at all.

But i wouldn't want a TV there, as i dislike seeing big pixels.
