how do you split your chores?

rh71

No Lifer
Typical household stuff:

Bathroom duty
Vacuuming
Laundry
Dishwashing
Cooking
Garbage to the curb

We have to split them by month ... otherwise we get into ridiculous arguments... how do you guys do it ?

Whoever is the last one who can't find somewhere in the sink to put the dish, does the dishes.

Your underwear, is your underwear. Mine is mine, I'll wash it myself.

Whoever is the last one who can't put something in the trash because it's full, takes out the trash.

If you're the one who uses the bathroom alone, clean it whenever. If it's shared, it's whoever gets grossed out the most. It gets messy.

There is no vacuum. At some point, it gets broken. No one is going to buy a new one.

If you don't cook it yourself, you starve.

And that's how it goes with a male room mate. I can't wait to get out with the SO.

in college, i had a roommate, we went by the 'whoever got annoyed first' rule. it was a good system, neither of us did any chores for the entire semester.

We don't have any system. But all of us pretty much take care of ourselves. If the trash needs to be empty and you see it, you do it. If you were the last person to do it, you ignore it. The chores get spread about pretty evenly.

Last girlfriend I lived with,

Typical household stuff:

Bathroom duty - Her
Vacuuming - Me
Laundry - Split, each did our own
Dishwashing - Her
Cooking - Split, I was better at "meat and potatoes" style, she was better at chicken/fish/vegetables.
Garbage to the curb - Me

We didn't bother alternating, we just sat and talked about what needed to be done and what we each liked/were-willing to do.

spend 5 minutes clean up after yourself, and call the others immediately if they don't clean up after themselves.

Gamenight - divvy up the chores, harder/nastier ones go to the last place person, easy or no chores for the first place person, and so on and so forth. Keep track over the year or semester and treat the overall winner to free dinner. That was our plan.

EDIT: It was a weekly event.
