did you check out the link?? it's already considered an informal usage of the word through. it isn't confused with anything else. no one would confuse thru with threw. there is no other word that uses the spelling for thru. so why not??

if it has made it in the dictionary as informal, then it's a reasonably small step to make it formal. it should only be a matter of usage. if the overwhelming majority of people start to use thru instead of through then an official change will be made.
