I went there at 11:30 this morning, needing a copy and binding job done, as well as printing up 3 spreadsheets to 36x24. The first kinko's says they can do the copy and binding by 6 o'clock, but their large b&w printer is down. So I leave the copy and binding job and go to the next Kinko's down the road. They say they can do the printing by 4 o'clock.

6 o'clock, near the height of rush hour traffic, I hit the road. The first Kinko's hasn't even started, because the clerk made a mistake and put 6 o'clock tomorrow on the order. She says she can do it by 7:30. So I have them get started.

Off to the next Kinko's, and they can't even find my order. Needless to say, it isn't done. After describing it, the clerk says that the guy who just left was taking my order to another location to work on it there. She says it'll be done by 7:45.

Just now I called the first Kinko's, and she said she's binding it right then. I asked if she has a cost estimate, and in response she put me on hold. I wait. After a while, the phone started ringing. After 10 rings, I hung up.

I then called the second Kinko's. He asks me my name, and puts me on hold. After 5 minutes, he came back and asked if my order was the spreadsheets. I said yes. He then said he'll start working on it. And it'll be about 9:30 before he's done.

*sigh*

Quit using them while you're ahead.

I've never had anything but hassles.

I made the mistake of relying on them for many graphics projects in college. Was frequently told that it would in the range of 12 hours to a full day for 8.5x11 print out. This is piss poor business management. I understand the idea of first come first serve, but with that many printers at their dispose, they should be keeping one free at all times to satisfy all the customers, rather than tying up all of the printers with a couple of lousy jobs.

Now I do production art at a large printing company and can get HP Indigo printouts anytime I feel like it. Beautiful stuff. I think the only reason Kinko's wouldn't invest in some of these machines is because their staff is, in fact, stupid, and couldn't work a computer or figure out a graphics application to save their lives.

I think my biggest beef, however, is that they RARELY had the most current versions of software and would wait until you go to pick your stuff up to tell you that... rather than giving the phone number that they asked for a call and asking you to save the files down or bring a hammer by to smack them in the head with or something.

Kinko's does not care about your deadlines. They have no concept of job (customer) management, and their staff is not knowledgable or capable of performing duties that I could accomplish in minutes if it were all self-serve.
